SCOTUS 13: Confirmation consternation contemplation

It's been 400 years. The tone of that post (and a couple of the followups) were very racist, IMO. Implying that minorities cannot do it on their own. They can, and they have, IMO. It's taken a while, but still.

You completely missed the point.

Privileged people can make a difference to those less privileged. It’s a fact. Because we are privileged we owe it to those that are discriminated against to stick up for them. You’d rather look the other way and say “they can stick up for themselves, I don’t need to help them”. Giving someone a hand isn’t the same as saying they are incapable of doing it themselves. It’s acknowledging that you’re in a position to help.

That I want a fair public trial before he's branded with the Scarlet Letter? That sorta thing?

It’s not a ****ing trial. We’re not going to get conclusive proof about anything.

We’ll get “well maybe he acted inappropriately”

Hopefully it will be enough to get a couple republicans to vote against him.

People are free to think whatever they want about him. Some people call OJ a murderer.

Total misinterpretation here.

I'm reading these posts, and it's coming across as "they (minorities) need our help, because they can't do it on their own."

I'm all about helping my fellow man, and try to do so. Some here are crucifying Kav simply b/c of his race/religion/privilege.....that ain't right.

That’s not what they said at all

You can be second in line behind Scoobs, then, in the blind loyalty. No, not the right side of the lot where Flaggy is, the left side.

I want nothing to do with the whole lot of you. It's amazing that few can actually see the middle ground and discuss. For God's sake, FTLT and I are just about on common ground. That would get us killed on the D1 side.

Holy **** you are nuts. Pointing out that you completely missed someone’s point even after they explained it many times means I’m the lefty version of Flaggy?

Well **** you then.

Coming from someone who won't acknowledge that racism exists...

For me it's not even an "I owe them" thing. I just want what's right and fair. And right now our society is anything but. I keep referring back to that period where this started to dawn on me. It took a lot of soul searching to realize just how bad some of the things I said were. Mostly out of complete ignorance. I haven't deleted these FB posts because I want them to be a reminder to myself that
a) I can be wrong
b) Good people can be ignorant
c) We can fix it <--- Most important

When we've purge our systemic racism we can revisit the discussion about who deserves more effort.

No brent, that's not at all right. This can be proven out by just reading the actual text. Not injecting an opinion.

You're just wrong on this and the facts just don't support what you're saying here at all. You're making **** up followed by some pretty awful comments about race.

It's been ~150 years, not 400. And it's only been 50 years since the civil rights era. And let's not pretend that racism ended magically overnight in the 60s.

Re: SCOTUS 13: Confirmation consternation contemplation

Yeah, yeah... You know, I actually debated adding that in but decided it wasn't necessary to make the point I unsuccessfully tried to make. I think I read that sentence three or four times before I said screw it, no one will catch it. :D

Re: SCOTUS 13: Confirmation consternation contemplation

Nope. This was a gang bang.

You should read back. It will be good for you.

Re: SCOTUS 13: Confirmation consternation contemplation

I'll just say that anyone who thinks I'm a racist, has another think coming.

I don't think you are a racist, and I think you understand the situation better than the average white American, who will say something like, "You know, I'm not a racist, but I wish the blacks would just settle down and stop committing crimes and/or acting like violent gangbangers" Which is just 21st century racism.
