this isn't exhaustive, but you can't ask questions regarding: race, sex, religion, national origin, birthplace, age, marital/family status, sexual orientation, health/disability, union affiliation,

It's actually not legal to ask someone if they drink alcohol at all during a job interview, however while we're all comparing this to a job interview, it isn't quite the same thing. i've been interviewed by the FBI for a background check, and they certainly asked about drinking and drug use.

yeah, I know. That's why I'm saying this isn't exactly the same as an interview. It's also not exactly the same as a simple background check.

Doesn't the FBI do the background check for the SJC and the SJC does this "job interview"?

yes, but the point I'm making is that while we're comparing this to a job interview, a senate judiciary committee hearing isn't really the same thing, so I don't believe the "no go interview questions" have anything to do with this.

Turtle Boy is back on the floor crying about how Kavanaugh has been treated and crying about how life isn't fair. Pretty amazing. I'll bet there are at least 10 on that list of Trump's like Gorsuch who wouldn't have had any of this happen and they're all just as bad for Roe vs. Wade, Corporate rulings, etc.

You can ask any question that's pertinent to the job, even if it's on the no-no list.

Does it matter if you're gay if you're applying as a line worker at a plane? No. Does your race matter if you're hiring someone to play Nelson Mandela? Yes.

And beyond that, since Congress is its own branch of government, it gets to make its own rules when acting in an official capacity.
