SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

I had someone comment to me yesterday that they found Dr Ford coming off as a confused, helpless person who talked like a little girl, not a college professor, and that was to them the most startling part of her testimony. They went on to say she came off as someone who could easily be used and manipulated. I don't buy all of what was said to me, but she really didn't come off as professorial and with speaking presence in the clips I heard.

Then again, Kavanaugh went from hot to cold to flat (repeat) which seemed way out of prior character and left me wondering why and which was real and which was for the cameras.

What does her being professional have to do with anything? She isnt up for the job he is. She is a professor if they had her there to teach a course she probably would have sounded more professional.

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

Flake has got to be the biggest loser in all of D.C. No one stands for less.

Who knows, but a couple of thoughts...

1. The meeting between the senators happened yesterday - not this weekend. That had to be a Flake's request. So its apparent that he if anyone was conflicted. Who knows about Collins, etc.
2. Flake was the only one that seemed shaken up by today's proceedings. I wouldn't be surprised if he was actually against moving forward...but saw that he couldn't get either Collins or Murkowski to change.
3. Flake still has the weekend to re evaluate his situation. People make mistakes, but I hope for his sake in the end he decides to make the right call. That will determine what kind of guy he is.

I'm flummoxed by this comment. Floored. I don't even know how to respond.

That person didn't get what they expected from a PhD college professor. < shrug >

I didn't get what I expected from Kavanaugh. < shrug >

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

People like Grassley and Graham need to be hounded in public* for the rest of their days in office. Sorry, but that's the only thing these ancient knuckledraggers are going to understand. They're too used to getting bj's from billionaire donors and then figuring that the peons just don't care. No violence of course but people to the left of these idiots need to stop being polite. Demonstrate, picket, and get them out of their absurd comfort zone where a guy who there's even a 50/50 change of being a rapist gets enthusiastically approved to the high court.

* - by public I don't mean going to their places of residence.

This 100% (especially the last part)

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

I know two women who are 100% on Kavanaugh's side on this. It's a little disturbing to listen to their reasoning. A lot of "Satan is at work here; Kavanaugh wants to keep families together by his pro-life stance." And then it goes on and on.

Just out of curiosity, about what age are these ladies?

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

Now we're going to whine about when the investigation could have happened. Every time they do that they convince women it's not worth it to come forward.

Re: SCOTUS 12: Will Kavanaugh Be Confirmed?

Rover, I get what you're saying, but far too often it doesn't create a good look* and can backfire and bolster the target. Look at Ted Cruz recently. After the event at the restaurant his numbers nudged up.

You really have to pick times and places and messages and behaviors very carefully if you're going to confront someone with a loud mob.

*When the mob shows up many Americans fall into "how would I react" mode.

If 2 is correct then that's even worse! A free vote to match his statements and he still threw it away.
