He has apparently come out as being unwilling to completely overrule Roe.

Dont fall into the trap of thinking Trump thinks like that. Plus I dont think the SC can stop Mueller at this point or Trump would have already made a run at it. (as Clinton would have) I am not even sure the SC can overrule an impeachment since it is a political not legal situation.

For now...that is his way to get Collins and Murkowski on his side.

If one Dem votes for this clown to be put on the court they should be Primaried out ASAP. If they hold the line the GOP needs to run the table to make it work.

No.

The Constitution, available here, Constitute, spells out the responsibilities and authorities pretty clearly.

Article I, Section 2

The House of Representatives … shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.

The House initiates the process, by drawing up charges.

Article I, Section 3

The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

The Senate decides whether or not to remove the President, based on those charges.

However, the Chief Justice does preside over that trial.

What trap? You think he has the self control or foresight to think more than one move ahead? If he feels threatened, he will act out.

If you think he thought that far ahead you are giving him too much credit. He nominated someone easy who ticks all the boxes it has zero to do with Mueller. If he wanted to prevent Mueller he would have put this guy up before Gorsuch. Nothing the SC does now can stop what is coming they dont have the authority.

I thought the same thing. Until it occurred to me that he almost certainly asked, “Who’s going to be most loyal to me?” Or something to that effect.

Of course, his staff knows that’s a stupid question, aside from Miller who was excited about juice box time. So they told him that it was the guy who would be least likely to rule in favor of mueller.

That's a simplistic way of looking at it. Of course he picked a lackey--that's all Trump does. But to think we wasn't also keenly aware of the guy's position on investigations is easy but not realistic.

Wouldn't it always be best to just let mueller continue on now wasting time until he has the goods, THEN squash it?

Why do it now and raise ire? Or so it now and leave stones unturned?

Let it all be found to get it out of the way, and then drop the kybash

I am not taking about loyalty...I am talking about the fact that nominating him to the Court does zero to help him with Mueller. The Supreme Court cannot block Mueller from going after Trump no matter how loyal they are.

This guy will side with Trump on everything but his hands are tied in this case. If he tried to stop Mueller it would cause a Constitutional Crisis.

Can I ask what you’re basing that on?

I ask because what have these ****wits done that instills confidence in you that they won’t try to do an end around on the Constitution?

Because they already would have. It isn't like the Court wasn't already to the Right.

They can block an indictment if the DOJ brings one (they won't) but I don't think they have the standing to rule Muellers investigation is unconstitutional.

Again though the Dems can definitely stop this if they just take their Viagara and fight together.

If they had scruples there would be no problem. Right now the bet is 3 break with the rest and vote to confirm cause they fear the Trumpers at home.
