BU wins 5-4 in a sudden death shootout, Laurel Koller with the game winner.

Great comeback by BU to tie the game after being down 3-0, then to go up 4-3. UNH tied the game up on the powerplay, with Herman pulled on a Birchard blast from the high slot with 54 seconds left. Micaela Long then missed a backhand shortside on a two on one with two seconds left to send it to OT.

FINAL: UMD 5, St. Cloud State 0. Kacy Ambroze and Katie Wilson with third period goals just moments apart (Wilson's second of the game). Jennifer Harss completes the 24-save shutout for the Bulldogs to earn the weekend split.

Idle Minnesota maintains the WCHA lead with 12 points. Ohio State second with 11 points, but they've played two additional conference games. Wisconsin and UMD tied for third with 10 points. And Bemidji State fifth with 8 points having played two fewer conference games than the "Big Three".

CHA Update:

Wayne State vs. Mercyhurst. 6-2 in Mercyhurst favor. WSU skated with them all game but as the coach stated the goal tending was not firing on all cylinders. Was at the game and have to say that this young Wayne State team is a lot faster than last year and keeps coming at you. Their growth will be fun to watch.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

BU 2, UVM 0 end of 1st

a couple defensive breakdowns in transition for Vermont killed them. and the last one was with 8 seconds left in the period......

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

BU 3, UVM 0 second intermission

UVM is being stuffed in the neutral zone, can't generate much for offensive chances. I'll give BU credit for some stifling D to this point.......

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

Final: BU 4, UVM 0

There have been some games this season that UVM has lost (the Clarkson and the 1st NU game come to mind), where they have played well, and actually outshot and outplayed the opponent, but get stymied by the goalie and come up short.

This, unfortunately, wasn't one of them. BU dominated this game, and I can see why they are ranked where they are. Kohanchuck and Cardella, by the way, are a handful!

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

Is it just me or did they install new lights in WBA? seemed a whole lot brighter.

You musta been wearing night vision goggles. The place is a dungeon!

However, I did hear that Walter Brown is getting a new floor, boards and glass next summer. Hopefully they will upgrade the lighting to the energy efficient fixtures which are considerably brighter than the metal hydride units currently in place.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

Wayne State pulls the goalie and ties Wisco at 2 each with 1:01 left in the third.........end of regulation, tied at 2

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

Shootout:

WS 0 X 0
WIS 0 0 0

Wayne State with a shootout win and a nice upset!

It would seem that the shootout was just for practice, given it wasn't a league game. The upset here may be that the Badgers were able to avoid losing the first game to a lower-ranked opponent, something that they hadn't done up until this point.

Box score is here. Very good crowd (1768) for a Thursday night. Additional props to WSU for the game-tying goal since the extra attacker was only on the ice for 3 seconds.

Thats a sad but true comment these days. Where has the scoring gone? Should be winning with 2 GAA.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

Where has the scoring gone?
A lot of it went to the US national team. If you take players the caliber of Lawler, Knight, Duggan, and Keseley off of any team, they aren't going to light it up as they did in the past. The Badgers have scored consistently this season on two weekends -- tOSU and UM. Only Colgate and St. Cloud rank lower than the Buckeyes in scoring defense thus far, and Minnesota's team D was just plain bad that weekend in Madison. Decker is the only UW frosh forward to make much impact in the scoring column, and she's only been available for two games.

I think that the Badger offensive situation is similar to what it was in the fall of 2007 after losing Bauer, Slusar, and Mikkelson, when they didn't score that much early. The difference this year is that they don't have Vetter in net to anchor them.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

I think the early loss of Decker has had major offensive ramifications. I assume that she would be on the top power play (which is currently historically bad) and perhaps the top penalty kill. While the Badgers have a lot of solid, decent forwards, Ammerman is seemingly the only top-shelf goal scorer.

I actually think that Ruegsegger and McCready have held up their end of the bargain. No they aren't as good as Vetter, but the numbers are good and have got hung out to dry more the once by major defensive giveaways.

Talent (and effort) got them to dynasty status over the last four years. With all the personnel losses they've sustained, it's more important than ever that the effort and urgency level is there night in and night out.

End of the 2nd in Madison. Ammerman added her second goal of the game with a power play tally to make it 3-1 Badgers leading Wayne State.
