He's GD 8. When I was 8, it was 1993 and all I cared about was whether anyone knew I didn't know the lyrics to Informer.

Now, I am 31 and I would care but I'd still argue about the most important event point.

Personally I wouldn't call it that. Without thinking much about it, probably the most important identifyable single event in human history was probably the Columbus voyage.

Imagine if Columbus had "discovered" the New World and everybody stayed in Europe after the 4th voyage.

That's what we did with the moon.

I would say Apollo 11 was one of the more remarkable feats in human history but certainly not the most important event. For that, I'd have to go with either the assassination of Franz Ferdinand or Bill Buckner's failure to get down.

I don't know about unreliable anymore - they had some initial quality issues with the early models that their warranty has supposedly addressed.

Definitely not a working man's car though, and won't be until they've got a model that costs less than $30,000.

Questions I have that remain to be answered:

1. As more people own electric cars, what will the impact to the overall grid be, and with the country still largely reliant on coal plants, what is the actual environmental offset? Also, how much bigger does my electric bill get if I'm plugging one of these things in every night?

2. Will we reach a point where enough people switch to electric cars, that the demand for gas drops to the point where it's still more economical to buy a gasoline-powered vehicle?

Convert the amount of energy in the total amount of gas used every day in the US, convert to kwh, its staggering.

SpaceX rocket blows up on pad.

NASA says SpaceX was conducting a test firing of its unmanned rocket when the blast occurred Thursday morning. The test, considered routine, was in advance of a planned Saturday launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

Buildings several miles away shook from the blast, and multiple explosions continued for several minutes.

I guess it's clear why they do a static test firing before attaching the payload.

edit: nevermind, it's still unclear whether the payload was attached.

That's unfortunate. The customer, Spacecom, had just been bought by a Chinese company. But, the terms of the sale specified that it was pending the successful entry into service of Amos-6...the payload that just got blowed up.

Meh, it was just some creepy Israeli surveillance satellite. Good riddance*.

* Amos, though, is actually pretty cool. He's a SJW who didn't give a fig for ritual and Jewish law and said you were right with the lord as long as you weren't being a d-ck.
