I still think he’s a charlatan. He had one hit with the roadster and it’s had horrible drivetrain issues. He needs more than just the one pretty car to be a real prodigy.

His thinking is forward but meh.

Pretty much, I've experienced one around that magnitude and we just thought the army base about 5 miles away blew something up.

Definitely a charlatan. Just as the big-box retailers beat out groceries.com and carbatteries.com and whatever other single-niche dotcoms busted in the early 2000s, so will Elon Musk be beaten out by BMW, Mercedes, GM, Ford, etc. He had an early corner on the early adopters, but that is a tiny fraction of the car market.

That doesn't make him a charlatan, though. A charlatan knowingly fleeces the public. My secret boyfriend believes in what he's doing. He may not achieve it, but he has a pure heart.

People have enough trouble with 2 dimensions while driving. Should we really be in a hurry to add a third?

His goal isn't to corner a market or make a fortune with this stuff, it is to push tech and markets as much as he can. If he continues to put effort into and make strides in these technologies and products, and ends up getting beaten out by major car companies, he would call that a tremendous success.

that's why he made all of Tesla's patents freely available to his competitors; he wants electric cars, not just those made by Tesla, to push out traditional cars

You really think that he believes, deep down, that he will provide a competitive market return on Tesla's $50B market cap? Really?

1. Overhype a product that has no market fundamentals for the foreseeable future
2. Lure investors
3. Laugh all the way to the bank

Sounds like a charlatan to me.

Tesla Semi truck pre-orders are coming in: It's reported that Sysco ordered 50, Hunts 40, Anheuser-Busch 40, Loblaw 25, WalMart 15, DHL 10, Meijer 4. Small numbers for these guys, but if the pilots go well hopefully they take off - they seem pretty attractive for short-haul routes.

didn't the cummins truck have a 100 mile range? Tesla claims 500 and ability to charge to a 400 mile range in 30 minutes.

This may be a really, really stupid question so please bear with me.

Couldn't a truck, by its very nature, carry a sh-t ton of extra batteries and extend its range practically infinitely?
