The Flying Crowbar.

A ICBM loaded with miniature hydrogen bombs that was capable of flying at tree-top level.

At supersonic speeds.

With an un-shielded nuclear reactor powering it.

(Thankfully the program was terminated.)

So what about the brain of your average American fruit fly? Those buggers know when you have your hand on a swatter or a rolled up newspaper. They know.

I put fruit fly traps down (apple cider vinegar, dish soap)... and the buggers have been avoiding them!

Saner heads did not prevail (in time) in the case of the NB-36H, which flew over Fort Worth 47 times with a nuclear reactor on board! They even powered up the reactor in flight, but never actually used it to propel the plane.

That’s nuts. I wouldn’t even put a reactor on a modern commercial jet, and those NEVER crash (right, Boeing? Right?)

Good deals on the 737 MAX are still available. ;)

Honestly, I don’t want musk in space anymore. Especially in earth orbit. We already know he does everything haphazardly. And eventually his backers are going to expect results. I don’t want his normal half-assery putting satellite territory in jeopardy.

Once we **** up a few satellites in orbit, we’re potentially done for years or decades. One satellite breaks into pieces, takes out two more, takes out four more, etc. it creates a giant cloud of debris orbiting the earth until it re-enters. Satellite crashes are potentially extremely serious events.

Potentially. There was a great nova episode about this.

And re-entry of the debris isn't guaranteed. There are already pockets of debris floating above Earth high enough where they are unable to be slowed by the smallest bits of ozone in order to slow down and re-enter.

Students Invent Bacteria That Eat Plastic From The Oceans And Turn It Into Water. This sounds nearly too good to be true (perhaps it's too early to really know) but if this is legit...

Currently the novelty is a bacterium , developed by students Jeanny Yao and Miranda Wang , who have been developing this project since their school years and today reap the fruits of it. They already have patents and have obtained a financing of 400 thousand dollars to start developing the product. All this with only 20 years old.

They have already won 5 prizes thanks to this project, they became popular as they were the youngest to win the Perlman science prize . All thanks to its tiny bacteria capable of transforming plastic into CO2 and water. The technology is used in two ways: To clean the beaches and also to produce raw materials for clothing.

"It is practically impossible to make people stop using plastic, we need technology to break the material, and everything becomes biodegradable, " says Miranda Wang.

The development of this technology is divided into two parts: First the plastic is dissolved and the enzymes as catalyze whereby the plastic becomes highly malleable fractions. These components are placed in a biodigester station , where they behave as if they were leftovers of food. The project runs in just 24 hours, to move from plastic to water, really promising.

It's not the Onion so seems legit but clearly the author is an ESL. :)
