Saturday October 24th Scores, Comments, Rants

Re: Saturday October 24th Scores, Comments, Rants

"The Oswego coach and Fox are talking with the officials". Oh boy! How do you not know the Coach's name. Ryan do you still have eligibility?

Re: Saturday October 24th Scores, Comments, Rants

"No idea what happened there."

Yeah, I always at least faked something when I had no idea what was going on.

(Cue the quotes to that line saying "Which was often, from the sounds of it.")

That being said, try to take it easy on the new guys people. I understand that with Ryan and I gone the SUNYAC isn't as fun*, but I remember it was into January of my first year doing games before I felt like I hit my stride. It's the first weekend. Hockey is dam near one of the hardest sports to broadcast on radio and getting any coverage at this level is something to be thankful for. It will only improve as the year goes on.

* (Replies to this line will include "Yeah, maybe Ryan, but who cares about you?". "Wait, I thought you were the MIAC guy?", "You were both hacks and I'm glad you're gone." and Jaslow will mention something about pretzels)

I'll be interested to hear thoughts from those who were at the Domes tonite. I can't say I'm terribly surprised at the end result.

I second that. If anyone wants to take shots at announcers who make big money doing that job who suck be my guest, but doing it a kid doing it for free (and technically losing money when you consider time, buying "press-box appropriate" clothes, etc.) as a service to their school is a major party foul. That being said it sounds like a few of the blunders tonight were due to laziness more than rustiness/inexperience and I can understand your frustration as a listener.

Speaking of new announcers Geneseo has new announcers this year*. I feel kind of stupid because I was pimping Neumann's broadcast/live stats all weekend, but we were there (in my defense there was no update on our radio station's webpage just a last minute update on the athletic homepage which I saw after today's game.) Check out Geneseo's new radio team in the future which are two former Ice Knights Brandon French and Kelly Stokley.

* And to continue the theme of fake replies here we go "Thank god last year's color guy sucked", "Wait, Geneseo has a radio crew?", "Will this year's radio crew be RogueViking and Beckyf?", and "Have you ever seen a grown man naked?" Not sure why that last one would be in there just a hunch

Minus the first period it was actually a very good game to watch. Lots of hitting, some really nice saves by both goaltenders, and some good end to end action. As Prez pointed out at the game, Elmira was without 3 major forwards that will help the Eagles at depth later on in the season. The Fox-Selleck-L??? line will be one of the best in the nation. They work very well with one another. The Oswego "D" seemed a little gassed by the end of the night, but its still early in the season. I will be curious to see how they match up with the speed of a Plattsburgh team. Beckwith looked good, but had some rebound control issues. Defense on both team did a decent job clearing the puck when a rebound was there. Elmira seemed to have more odd man rushes, but just couldn't capitalize.

The SUNYAC started being fun when I showed up, you guys were kind enough to pick up the pieces from the shattered remains while things died off for a while in between time.
