Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

I've got to believe that if he was pimping out those kids, chances are that he would have mentioned it to the wrong person, and the lid would have been blown off of this a long time ago. Someone is going to think "W T F am I doing giving money to THESE people?", and blow the whistle. He's asking to get busted by a sting. It's one thing to be raping 10-year olds and not get busted for this long. It's something entirely different to be passing them out and still keeping the wraps on this.

Pardon me for a few minutes. After typing those last two sentences, I've got to boil my brain in bleach. Those might be in the top 10 of worst things ever posted here, and yet they're well within the bounds of this conversation.

I'm going to quietly hope that it would have been hinted at in the current grand jury indictment and the feds would be looking at flipping Sandusky for more names in exchange for not being in general pop or something.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

That, too. I've got to believe that at least one of these kids would have said something about that, and it would have been in the media when this whole thing broke. That would have been part and parcel of the original story.

Life imitates art (a massive abortion scandal is now inevitable if that's the case)? :p

Well, I really hope you're right.

But, we all know that there are people out there that actually do run child prostitution rings. Its horrible, but unfortunately it happens. They manage to cover up the **** that they do, and still manage to find other demented people to participate. That is why I can't just discount the rumor as not being possible. I hope I'm wrong.

Probably true, but I reported the child prostitution ring to the police tonight anyway. I can't afford to lose my job.

You would be shocked at how well NAMBLA - National Man Boy Love Association - trains their "members" on how to get away with S H I T like this all the time. It is vary hard to gain info on and break up very organized rings like this.... IF the rumors are true. It won't be as shocking as it should be.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

McQueary won't be coaching on Saturday.

Penn State receivers coach Mike McQueary, one of the central figures in the burgeoning child sex abuse scandal at the school, will not attend Saturday when the Nittany Lions play their final home game of the season, the school announced Thursday night.

The school cited "multiple threats" as the reason for McQueary's absence Saturday against No. 19 Nebraska.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Civil suit potential reportedly between $100MM and $250MM. About 15 percent of Penn State's entire endowment.

You really want to see some fireworks? Wait until they have to raise tuition to pay for them all.

you cant touch an endowment. the funds are permanently restricted

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

Is there anyone mentioned so far who actually did all they possibly could in all this? The number of people "involved"/who knew SOMETHING is astounding. The fact this is only breaking on a national scale in 2011 is flat out scary.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

I never thought about it before... but the timing is odd that it all comes out one week after he passes Eddie Robinson on the all time victory list.
Its a pretty sick thought, isn't it? What we know is the tip of the iceberg, lots of folks going down.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

One of the things I have been wondering about is where this all ends? Who is the last person to be linked to the worst of it? The stories that have come out so far that are verifiable are shocking enough. The rumors that seem to have some possibility of truth are equally or more shocking. At this point, little that happens would surprise me.

Something I touched on in one of the Notre Dame centric forums was coaches who amass this much power. There has always been a lot of hand wringing by Notre Dame fans about the "real" reasons behind the departures of some of our football coaches. Did Notre Dame really fire Frank Leahy? Why didn't the administration do more to encourage Ara to stay? Why did it appear that they ran Holtz out of town on a rail? The records and deportment of these guys was never anything less than exemplary. Big wins, and lots of them. Players all graduated. Few or no NCAA violations. Yet all wore out their welcome, so to speak, sooner than one would have figured. Especially seeing how the tenure of some of college footballs most successful coaches have gone on 2 or 3 decades longer. Each of these ND coaches were on the sidelines for just 11 seasons. (Leahy's stint as a head coach was 13 seasons, but he missed 2 during naval service during WWII). The real reasons for the changes was Notre Dame felt that all were getting too big for their britches. Arrogant. Yeah, probably. I bet Penn State wishes they'd have been a little more arrogant in the same manner.

After seeing how things have begun to play out in State College, I doubt it is wise to let a football coach hang around long enough to appear to become bigger than the institution he works for. That's part of the reason Paterno was at Penn State until this week, and I'm sure many would agree part of the reason a tragedy like is unfolding could go undetected by outsiders for so long. There were multiple occasions where the administration appeared to want him out. But with so many people throughout the university that PLAYED for Paterno, its little wonder he had such a hold on them all. I wonder if the days of coaches lasting 30 and 40 years at any big time football factory are now over. They probably should be.

No need to mention it if they come to him. Just saying...

Did anyone see the Law and Order SVU from earlier this year about the inner city basketball coach who did all sorts of charity work and mentored at risk kids getting them into college and some into the NBA? The coach was beloved, honored for his work then exposed for molesting his athletes on road trips. The parallels are scary...
