Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

so you suspend him, with pay, while you are investigating.

i think they're covered.

and they have cause to fire.

I dunno. As of this moment, the police said he legally was in the clear. That may change very quickly, we don't know.

ABC6 in Philly reporting Paterno has either been fired, or forced to leave now, and there will be an interim coach Saturday.

That's the best move. I'm going to guess that the official wording is "resigned," the cliched euphamism.

brent, coaches get fired for losing games. they get fired when a new gm/ad is hired. if at worst he brought shame and dishonor upon the university through his inaction, that's enough.

Tom Bradley is apparently the interim coach.

Re: Sandusky/Penn State scandal

So they're actually covering it?

They're playing up all of JoePa's accomplishments and talking about how he's stepping down at the end of the year. The host (Dave Revsine?) was disheartened by Staples' whole take on the matter.

I'm not saying he should still coach, but PSU still has to make sure they don't add any more problems to this mess.

After several days of revelations surrounding the conduct of coaches and administrative officials at Penn State involved in the Jerry Sandusky scandal, head coach Joe Paterno will not coach another game for the Nittany Lions, reports Jim Gardner. Tom Bradley will serve as interim coach. The Board of Trustees is expected to announce this decision at a 10:00 p.m. ET press conference.

the problem now, listening to my friends and family, is they don't want to pay the victims payouts (tax money). they want it to come from that billion dollar endowment.

i tell them they are ****in into the wind, :D but that is coming from harrisburg.

Re: The Penn State Scandal, Take Two

I've been lurking through this thread the whole time, afraid I might get hit in the crossfire if I post, but now that it appears to have settled I'll take my turn.

I think Joe Pa needs to be allowed to stay through the end of the regular season. There is still a team out there fighting for a conference championship and it would not be fair to take their coach- ok, not coach but definitely their icon- away in the middle of all this. Morally, JoePa did a terrible, terrible thing. Legally, however, he did what he needed to do reporting the situation to the higher-ups.

I was thinking to let JoePa coach the bowl game, especially if PSU makes it to the Rose Bowl, but I've changed my stance now. Based on his retirement statement, he knows that he is effed for what will probably be the remainder of his life dealing with this, and he just wants one last ride into the sunset. Let him have that, but don't let him have the Grand Daddy of 'em All rides into the sunset. As I see it, he's pretty lucky to still be around given the additional information that's come out since the original reports. Let him have one last jog onto the field (Is he doing that or is he still in the press box?), let him have one last game in front of his followers in Happy Valley, if he's lucky let him and the seniors enjoy one last victory in State College. If PSU makes it to Indy, well then I guess he gets one more accomplishment under his belt. But if they win and make it to Pasadena, he doesn't need to be there, he doesn't deserve to go out in that special of a light. So give him a farewell tour, but cut it short of what it could be.

EDIT: Well, there goes that. I just figured we'll never see a legend like this again, we should give him some type of farewell. But I can't say I can argue with the decision.

BTN as well. No mention of the presser. They are saying he she not coach starting immediately.

Is what is on BTN right now live? I was thinking it was a recorded show from earlier in the day.

No offense, but are you f*king nuts?! What isn't fair is what these children had to live through and the children who were harmed AFTER this came to light.
