Salve Regina @ Adrian 12-8-18

Re: Salve Regina @ Adrian 12-8-18

Looking at the box score it looks like things got wild in Adrian today with multiple dust-ups and fights. Anyone see what happened?

Edit: in trying to answer my own question, it looks like Adrian uses YouTube's live capabilities as their stream infrastructure so anyone like me who's interested can watch an archive of the stream here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5vl1BVwI0Q

Around 1:16:42 is the first set of Hitting After The Whistle penalties. Fairly mild, at least looking at it. Two Bulldogs go into the Salve goalie at the whistle and two Salve players start to try to scrap with them. They get separated fairly quickly.
Around 2:03:15 is more of the same. Salve players go into the Bulldogs goalie and another small scrap. One player each to the box.
Around 2:31:50, Balsamo of Adrian gets to the empty net and stands there before scoring after he puts the puck in the Salve players jump him. Players throw sticks around as the refs sort out the ejections. Balsamo was assessed a penalty and escorted to the box, but blew a kiss at the Salve player standing with the refs to discuss the penalties and he gets tossed.
Around 2:35:30, the final scrap starts off-camera as the camera op didn't pan over to the corner. When he does you can see them all going at it.

So I take it you can add Salve to the list of teams that will never play a regular season game against Adrian (in addition to Stevens Point)?

You wanna mess with the bull youre gonna get the horns. Point ran and hid. Now we'll see what Salve Vagina does.

Real Classy. You must be one of those idiots clapping and cheering on the Adrian player during and after the fight. Not to mention cheering them on in the lobby after the game. That’s not what D3 hockey is about. Wake up will ya. Nothing happens if Balsamo just puts the puck into the open net instead of showboating and stopping infront of net waiting for a salve player to get close. That started it all.. DEnough said.

Re: Salve Regina @ Adrian 12-8-18

Interesting finish. While I usually won't single them out, the refs seemed particularly gutless in letting things get to that point, and then not stepping in to stop the fight. It also looks like, at that rink, everyone would prefer junior hockey. Maybe the school has missed the boat on that.

Balsamo is a direct reflection of the program. Lots of skill and absolutely no self control, largely the reason that Adrian struggles to ever win the big game. That trend will continue

I just happened to catch the end of that game,if that was me I would have blasted him into row D,bush league move..and what comes around goes around.

Oh no. Adrian's roster is chock full of quality guys. The departed self-appointed expert whose integrity is beyond reproach Hammer told us so two years ago at this time after Armour crippled a UW-SP player. Surprised he's not in here defending Balsamo too. Great guy! He wouldn't do that sort of thing!

Re: Salve Regina @ Adrian 12-8-18

Followed the link to see the footage, and I was absolutely appalled by the spectacle at 19:56.

Adrian played two fairly clean games at Utica this year, but that Tie Domi-style pummeling was unlike anything I've ever seen in college hockey, whether it be in D-1 or D-3. It was a de-facto assault, and a complete disgrace to the collegiate game.

And to compound the matter, the refs were too cowardly to step-in and prevent a probable concussion. Instead, they stood and watched as if it was a beer-league brawl: that was especially revolting to see. That s*** belongs in the ECHL or some other dead-end "pro" league.

Let's see if D-3 remains sanctimonious enough to hammer this BS down, suspend players and refs, and get a GD grip on the situation.

Disgusting.

The only entity that can do anything about this is the league itself (NCHA, the league Adrian belongs to, since it was a non-conference game). There is no such thing as a D-3 "entity" to do anything about what happened.

Eric Smevoll and Joshua Hatinger are both chicken $&@# cowards. There’s no reason as to why both of them were standing there with their notepads and scratching their *****es with their pencils as Bachnak tees off on Renda.

It was Patry not Renda in the fight at the end. Renda was removed earlier after the empty net goal. The box doesn't give Patry a fighting penalty!

They were the refs. Refs don't break up fights. Linesmen do. Refs observe to make sure they get the penalties during a fight. It's been that way for ages in hockey.

I remember a long time ago a bench clearing brawl between Potsdam and Brockport, when they used one ref and two linesmen. The ref went over to the scorers' table, grabbed a clipboard and pen, and watched the whole thing while taking down numbers. That's what he's supposed to do.

At some point you would think the school would do something to prevent this from reoccurring every season. But that is only because I assume that isn't the branding they are looking for.......

I should have said "Assistant Referees", as linesmen are currently called, but in any case they should have intervened immediately.

So, do you know how much (if any) leeway the NCHA has in meting-out suspensions, etc.?

This is correct, however in watching the video the two linesmen were involved breaking up another tussle, so they were "unavailable." One of the two referees should have jumped in on the second fight while the other monitored. It almost makes me wonder if the first (and less severe) dust-up was a diversion for the other one, but that may be carrying the conspiracy a bit too far. The fact Adrian plays Canton next instead of a NCHA game does smell though as to the timing of this incident.

I can't speak for the NCHA, but conferences at all levels have handed out further suspensions after the fact when they got to review video. I know the SUNYAC did it a couple of years ago. And, you read about D1 conferences doing it all the time, especially for hits to the head that weren't called properly during the game.
