running tally - 2013 ncaa mens hockey tournament

Re: running tally - 2013 ncaa mens hockey tournament

You should exclude losses to teams in their league. Therefore, HE should be 3-1 and ECAC is going to be 5-0 later today.
Well if you are going to exclude losses then you should exclude intraconference wins too. So the ECAC remains 4-0. HE is 2-1.

Yale deserves a lot of credit, certainly. But one year does not erase the countless years of futility.

It's a starting point but now let's see how your teams do in the FF.

I'm a big believer in coaching, especially in tournament settings. Yale will never have a ton of top NHL draft picks on their team, as opposed to some of the top schools, but winning college hockey is a lot more than that. Lets face it, a guy drafted in the first round or two doesn't look at college the way someone going to Yale does.

With that said, it's hard to argue with Allain's recent success at Yale. They play an extremely exciting brand of hockey, their home rink is a constant sellout, their players are getting a second to none education and more importantly a Yale degree, and they have been to the NCAAs 3 of last 4 years where the only team they have lost to has always been the eventual champion.

Here is one fan that hopes Yale sticks to form. ;)

The ECAC fans deserve to have a chip on their shoulder and are showing a great deal of class by restraining themselves and not gloating.

Really?? We don't even know yet if a ECAC team is going to win the FF or even have a team in the championship game.

No doubt the ECAC has improved the last several years. That is beyond dispute. Still the fact is that the ECAC has had zero national championships since 1989 while the Hockey East has won 8 titles, the WCHA has won 9 titles, and the CCHA has won 5 titles. There isn't an argument you can make that the ECAC isn't on a second tier to the top 3 conferences.

Like you said, the ECAC is improving and things can change. Nothing is set in stone. ECAC used to be part of the "Big 4" conferences and this can happen again. Getting two teams in the FF is a start. Winning a national championship this year would be a bigger start. An impressive one, but a start nonetheless. The ECAC will need to have sustained success to be seen as equal to the WCHA (NCHC/Big 10) and Hockey East. (Even the CCHA has slipped a bit in recent years.)

Ummm... :D

The ECAC as a conference has put together several very very good years, which coincide with several significantly down years by the WCHA. In the meantime, Hockey East has been what it always is, except that BC has been ridiculous (this year aside). I really hope that the ECAC continues to do well, so that they can universally become thought of as a big-time conference. They're not there yet, but they sure are working on it. Parity makes the sport much more fun.

But let's not kid ourselves that ECAC fans are showing any better sportsmanship than fans of any other conference. There are guys like Ralph and Kepler following every conference. There are also jerks following every conference. And quite a few of them, following the ECAC, have shown their true colors this week.

R.I.P. CCHA. First time I can remember that there will be no traditional hockey "power" in the FF.

If Union makes it, they'll be the veterans based on last year. :D
If Q wins, only Yale will have been to a Frozen Four, and that was probably before the parents of the players were born.

First Frozen Four since 1991 (CCT, BU, Maine, NMU), where an FBS team will not be a participant.

AND, if Union wins, Yale will be the only Division 1 participant.

To be honest, I would have liked having a traditional power there to "legitimize" it. I mean, we have gone through them...
