RPI & Union @ Clarkson & St. Lawrence (11/13, 11/14)

Re: RPI & Union @ Clarkson & St. Lawrence (11/13, 11/14)

Union and RPI, do in fact, stay in the same hotel during the north country trip.

Re: RPI & Union @ Clarkson & St. Lawrence (11/13, 11/14)

After hearing Appert and Helfrich speak, I think Tyler just needs to sit out this weekend and give that ankle more time. Playing all out on it when it isn't 100% is not in his or the team's long term interest. As much as I want him back, unless he's dramatically better next week, I'd sit him until the holiday tourney.

I suspect that is what will happen. The linesup shows that Helfrich, Lee, and Rabbani are all scratched.

Its up to Smith and Malchuk to drop the hammers at forward tonight...:p Good to see Halpern in the lineup again -- he more than earned it last w/e.

Missing 3 top forwards will be difficult to make up for-Let's hope they are back in the lineup soon.

The big news is who will start in goal for the Dutchmen. Coach Nate Leaman is going with freshman Keith Kinkaid. When I asked Leaman earlier this week about who will start, he said he hadn't decided. When I followed up if he was unhappy with junior Corey Milan's play, he didn't comment — which means he was.

Milan let in four questionable goals in last weekend's games against Brown and Yale. Kinkaid came to Union with great credentials, leading the St. Louis Bandits to the North American Hockey League title. He has struggled in two games so far, going 0-1 with a 5.35 goals-against average. Kinkaid was pulled from his Messa Rink debut Oct. 24 against Sacred Heart when he allowed four first-period goals.

It's only mid-November, but this game could determine the Dutchmen's fate this season. If Kinkaid plays well, he will get more playing time. If he doesn't, then it will be up to the Dutchmen offense to outscore teams.

Here is Union's lineup, beginning with the forwards (LW-C-RW):
Jeremy Welsh/Jason Walters/Mario Valery-Trabucco
Brian Yanovitch/Kelly Zajac/Stephane Boileau
Adam Presizniuk/John Simpson/Wayne Simpson
Andrew Buote/Jon Lareau/Jason Shaffer

The defensive pairings are:
Mike Wakita/Greg Coburn
Brock Matheson/Ryan Forgaard
Mike Schreiber/Shawn Stuart

Six freshmen starters including goalie and 3 on D. Should be an interesting night.

RPI and Union take first blood tonight-a chance for a Capital District sweep tomorrow-wonder when that has ever happened up there?(wink)

I think it's a tad early to say that it could determine their fate for the season, but based on what I heard from the radio broadcast, Kinkaid has earned more playing time. I wouldn't be shocked to see him start again tonight.

Re: RPI & Union @ Clarkson & St. Lawrence (11/13, 11/14)

Is it too early to say that the road trip into the Capital District may now be the toughest in the ECAC? Probably-but I bet a lot of teams are now preparing for a much tougher time than they used to.

With Cornell's loss, we are the only undefeated travel partners left, so looking blindly at the records, yes. However, anything can (and usually will) happen in the ECAC, so I'll look forward to the rest of the season. As Coach says, one game at a time, one step at a time. Or on here, one post at a time. :D

Ouch. Dr. D, It's not Thanksgiving, yet. Let's not jinx it. We're all thinking the same on this, but let's not start doing cartwheels, yet. I'm happy for the boys, and fans, of the Albany area. Let's keep it going. :D

Wouldn't be funny if both RPI and Union made it to Albany and it sold out this year? :D I agree that it is really too early to think about it.

I wasnt just saying it because Union and RPI had not lost in the league yet-it appears they are both playing a very physically demanding style and banging with teams more than in the past. I realize that Cornell/Colgate is still tough and Princeton/Quinnipiac is no picnic, but there has been a marked change in the Capital District teams in the past year and I think the rest of the league has obviously taken notice of it.
