RPI @ Union (1/16): in which Union fans crow about being in 1st and "owning" RPI

I like the view from the top.

I wouldn't get too used to it. RPI is tired of completely blowing games in the third, they actually want to win now and the tougher parts of the ECAC schedule are yet to come.

I think Boileau or someone else may have missed a game due to illness, but that's about it.

It wasn't illness or injury, but wasn't Union also missing several players due to suspensions in one game?

I'm disowning this guy. He's not with us.

I think we were missing our top 4 or 5 scoring forwards in one game against RPI. I know for sure they all got suspended for one game, and I'm fairly sure it was against RPI.

Fear the Capital District. We may be the most formidable duo in the league, finally.
It's been said several times before, but it would be great if both teams make it to Albany and sell out the building the last year that the tourney is there.

As RC wrote in post 26, see post 19. :)

I'm all for a sold-out ECAC tourney (no matter the venue), but the 3 RPI/Union games this year, all played in the Capital District, have had attendance of 2327, 2740, and 2520. These are games scheduled months in advance - I just can't see an extra 10,000 fans deciding to go to the tourney games on a week's notice. Very few schools send more people to post-season games than they get for home games - I doubt even Cornell sends more than its rink size (4237) to Albany.

Yes, I realize that the game at Union was sold out, but 1) the games at RPI are an indicator that the top end of interest isn't a whole lot higher than that, and 2) a small rink is a double-edged sword. Sure, it looks great to be able to tout sellouts, but there will necessarily be a pretty small group of people who go to the games. There may be a lot of people in the Albany area who would be Union fans if they could get tickets, but they can't, so they can't possibly be as into the program as if they were able to attend a lot of games.

Ummm maybe. The two games at RPI were on odd days. One was during Thanksgiving break and the other was a mid-week game. So I don't think you can draw any firm conclusions just yet. As the two teams rise in the standings the attendance should follow.

Speaking of which... now that we've got two good teams in the district, this question of do we have a rivalry or not might finally be put to bed in the affirmative. This game is more anticipated than the previous three. If there is a meeting in Albany then that interest will rise more. This is the stuff that rivalries are made of.

I have decided it depends upon what one means by the term "rivalry".

From dictionary.com
1. the action, position, or relation of a rival or rivals; competition: rivalry between Yale and Harvard.
2. an instance of this.
Clearly this depends upon what "rival" means.
1. a person who is competing for the same object or goal as another, or who tries to equal or outdo another; competitor.
2. a person or thing that is in a position to dispute another's preeminence or superiority: a stadium without a rival.
By the first definition Union is indeed a rival. By the second, they are now, but weren't until recently, and may not be in the future. (That despite the fact that Union may have its best recruiting class ever coming in next fall.)

JMHO.

Then there are some of us with sub-600 Verbal scores that are saying, "Huh?" :D

I just missed 600. (I got a 599 before they started rounding off scores to two significant digits.)

You can't go by best recruiting class- just look at Harvard this year. :)
You need team chemistry, among some other things.

I think we would get a lot of people to the TU. Mabey not a sell out, but I think a huge crowd.
Now just think of the numbers if Cornell would make it as well :p
