RPI @ RIT, Friday 11/25/11

Re: RPI @ RIT, Friday 11/25/11

I think RIT fans will use this as a measuring stick of where they are this year. RIT is 1-1 in non-conference play so far, with a win over St Lawrence and a brutal loss to Union. Win this game, and RIT will have some good records in common opponants with ECAC teams should that matter in tournament selection/seeding. A loss and I think the RIT faithful will talk about how they are not able to take their game to the next level to compete against better leagues. I know Coach Wilson in the past has done some experimenting more in OOC games, but one thing he stated at the start of the year was a goal to win more of these games.

RPI, from what I can tell, seems to be in an epic goal scoring funk. It does not help that they have been injury plagued. They may use this game to try and turn around their season and get back on the winning side.

That said, I predict a 2-2 tie.

0-0 is more likely. :D

Stopped by the Ritter to get my tix, all reserved are sold, and saw RPi practicing at @ noon.

Re: RPI @ RIT, Friday 11/25/11

the expression always came across as something illegal that was gotten away with only because the refs couldn't call a mountain of penalties.

It's been said that in the US professional football league (NFL) that there is holding by one of the offensive linemen on every play. Only the blatant ones or the ones that clearly affect the outcome of the play get called.

I've seen clutch and grab plays from my perspective that the referee could not see. One player skates close to another, and the latter's glove grabs the former's jersey while they are in close proximity. No way a ref could see that, although a fan at ice level sees it quite clearly.

You see four or five of those events each period, yeah, you do get a bit frustrated.

You seem to be arguing that it is okay to do anything to win as long as you don't get caught. Other people say they'd prefer to see teams play within the rules without necessarily relying on the referee.
