Re: RPI Recruiting II: Knowlton's Rangers (enlistments open)

Brutlag, JFK, Merth, Bergin, and Zarbo plus Bailen, Quinn, and Curadi?

8 D-men with Brut the smallest at 5-10, 185?

Sweet! I am already looking forward to 2010. Some offensive power with a defense to keep the front of the net clear.

Merth won't be around - he's a senior.

Next year's D-corps is Brutlag, JFK, Bergin, Foss, Zarbo, Bailen, Quinn, and possibly Curadi (although I'm starting to hope maybe we can get another D for next year and bring Curadi in for 2011 instead... more BCHL exposure = awesomeness).

BTW, saying that next year's team will have "some" offensive power is like saying Hiroshima produced "some" destruction.

I knew it was Foss and not Merth... not sure why I mixed the two up.

Touche.

It wouldn't surprise me if when Curadi shows up depends upon whether we sign Grant Scott. Scott's clock is ticking because he played last year for Minnesota, so if we get him, it would be for 2010.

Just wait until DrD shows up. The vodka will be flowing. :D

I know it's early but I had to toast this one with a Van Gogh Dutch Caramel Vodka. It would appear that we have increased our size on defense immensely-the games with Cornell should be a bit more of a tug of war now. 6'5" and 255(and possible still growing)-Oh my!

Interesting that Curadi's committment comes a year to the day of his initial committment to UMass last season.

Luke Curadi

The Hartford Jr. Wolf Pack are proud to announce that defensman Luke Curadi has committed to the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Hockey East Division I.

Curadi is a 6'5 250 lbs mobile defensman who is playing in just his first season as a junior hockey player in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League.

Mobile, eh? Big AND mobile.

So if he had committed to UMass and had initially planned to be a freshman there this year, that might mean we'll see him in 2010.

Re: RPI Recruiting II: Knowlton's Rangers (enlistments open)

Looked this up for myself ...

I guess that if you have a kid with a 3.5 or a 1200, then you can find away to call whatever you are giving him academic aid as long as you cover your tracks sufficiently.
Exactly. Even the NCAA realizes they have far bigger issues to worry about than whether a kid with a legit 1200 SAT is getting academic or athletic money.

He's a quality player, I hope you guys are lucky enough to keep him. I'm not sure who's advising him but so far he's jerked around UMass with his committment and then did the same to his USHL team about two weeks before he was supposed to suit up for them. I heard he's still considering the major junior route.

I wouldn't use ink to write him into your future roster until he actually sets foot on campus.

Re: RPI Recruiting II: Knowlton's Rangers (enlistments open)

I was going by the roster that RPI has on RPIAthletics.com, which is what CHS.net also reports.

No matter, the D-men aren't going to be tiny guys and we'll be firmly under Appert's system, setting us up for some improvement. I'm really really happy, but trying to temper my excitement so my optimism doesn't get the best of me.

If anything he was guilty of jumping at the first offer that came at him -- he's admitted as much. Then he got noticed in Hartford and his choices grew...I don't blame a 17 year old kid for changing his mind.

It's official, Doc will be getting a headstart on his weekend......hiccup ! YOU CAN'T TEACH SIZE !! :D

Already started-Van Gogh Dutch Caramel Vodka-with the heavy snow coming here late tonight and tomorrow we have settled in for the weekend. You are correct-you cannot teach 6'5" and 255 pounds.

I don't disagree. But everything I've heard is it was more complex than just that. He has shown a pattern of changing his mind since I've been following him. But like I said, he's a great get for you guys. Appert is assembling quite a collection of talent for RPI.

It could have been worse. He could have bolted directly to another school after decommitting like someone who will remain nameless.

Assuming we're looking at Scott, which seems like a good bet. Unless you know something we don't, which is usually also a good bet.

Ralph-educate me a little-if he played only one game for Minnesota-does that count the same as if he played a full season? Or do you have to play a certain percentage of a school's games to count as a season?
