Oak Lake’s Hunter Wallace will head west next hockey season.

The son of Tod and Penny Wallace has committed to play for the Brooks Bandits in 2021-2022. The team competes in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

“He is an exciting player that has speed, high end puck skills and is as competitive as they come,” said Bandits head coach Ryan Papaioannou on the team’s website. He also praised Wallace’s personality, saying, “his attitude and smile will be infectious around the dressing room.”

Wallace said that choosing the Bandits was an easy decision for him and his family.

“I had a great visit when I went down to Brooks and fell in love with the program,” he said. “It's a great city that's very similar to home. Their facilities and coaching staff are great. I am sure that they will help me to pursue my goal of playing NCAA hockey.”

The 5-foot-7, 140-pound Wallace is suiting up this season for the U18 AAA Southwest Cougars. He has a team high, four goals through five games.

“It is super exciting to be dressing in a Cougar uniform again, especially with everything that happened last year and the playoffs getting cut short,” Wallace said.

It is of course possible that RPI staff has traveled to see him live in the early exhibition games this season, now that the Canadian border is open to U.S. residents.

I agree. Also considering how many players we have recently gotten from Brooks, directly or indirectly, we probably have a good relationship with the staff. Although I can't post neutral Zone's reviews, his most recent evaluation from 10/28/20 may be the best one for an RPI recruit since I started subscribing for the 2018-19 season. Among others, it used words like elite, lightning, smooth, and deadly. the only negative was his size.

He had a 3-2-2-4-0 line in the 3 out of 4 exhibition games which he was dressed for. The next game counts.
