RPI Recruit Thread 2021-22 (Part II)

A public writeup on Neutral Zone about Kimball Union's win on Wednesday in the Elite 8 tourney https://www.neutralzone.net/prep-men...er-holderness/. The article mentions both Kareem Al-Azem and Jackson Kyrkostas. Al-Azem was given the #1 Star.

IMHO it is quite meaningful when a defenseman gets the #1 Star, or any star for that matter, without entering the score sheet,

Ralph: If it helps make you feel a bit better today, I have some information about KAA that i will send you perhaps later today. After seeing it I cannot understand his 3.5 rating listed. From the description I have, first of all he is a bit bigger boy both in height and more so in weight. His evaluation deserves to be higher, perhaps 3.75 if not even a 4.0. When I can get around to it I have some other evaluations to forward about others. Some a little better and some a little less so about others. What almost all point out, however, is a distinct lake of scoring up front. Hoping our coach is carefully perusin gthe transfers possible as we are going to need a couple boys who can finish and put the puck into the net.

I agree that he should be higher than 3.50 from what I have read about him. Since NZ is following the Elite 8 tourney, that may happen. It is a pity that he has committed to Maryland in the NCDC for next season since I suspect that someone in the USHL will draft him. He probably wants to stay near home which I can't blame him. As to size, I always take it with a grain of salt except for the USHL where the NHL measures and weighs players.

Although he assuredly will benefit from more time in juniors, with our lack of enough defensemen for next season, he could show up in Troy in the fall.

As to feeling better today, a victory at the HFH would help a lot. :-D

I assume you mean NAHL not NCDC, but I agree with everything you said here. There's zero chance he comes this fall though, which is good. He needs a year or two in juniors, speaking of which, I'm sure he can play in the USHL if he wants. I don't think the tender forces you to play in the NAHL if you don't want to

Yes, I meant NAHL.

I don't think that the chance he comes in the fall is zero although it is not big as we may take him so he doesn't get stolen by someone else.

Agree with that totally. Schools are making commitments earlier all the time for that very reason. The recruiting world has been altered by several events. of course eventual pro contracts have always played a role and so has the money involved in the future carer. But now COVID shut downs and restrictions have been added to the mix and we cannot predict what happens down the road with the chance of a repeat of these things.
