RPI Recruit Thread 2018-19

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2018-19

I'm actually hoping it won't, at least not without some modifications. Major Junior doesn't have these sorts of restrictions. And once a kid goes there, they're gone. They really need to keep it open for at least sophomores. I'll give you 8th grade is too young, and it's been too long for me to remember if I was receiving college catalogues in my freshman year of HS. And who says we need to be restricted to grade level? What about adding a provision for birth date, I'd say 15 years 6 months because you can sign at the juniors level when you're 16?

Good point about major juniors.

Actually, what bothers me more than the commitments by young players is the stockpiling that some schools do. There are schools with over 30 recruits on Heisenberg's list. Quite a few will never go where they are listed, and it won't be because of a change in coaches as at RPI.

That's not really surprising, especially when it comes to youth leagues. How many of those would you say were school recruitment over school reputation? If I'm a kid in Bantams or Midgets with a good amount of skill and tons of potential, and I'm looking at wanting to go to college, I'm going to see a team like the Sioux that have been absolute powerhouses, and want to go there over some not-so-hot spot like RPI. In recruiting's eyes, that's a verbal commitment. Whether the coaching staff feels I'll be able to make the team and when is another story, which is where the fall throughs and a number of our recruits come from. And if there really is school recruitment involved, I don't blame them for wanting to hedge. Take a player like Laliberté. Huge numbers in juniors, but it just seemed like that's where he peaked. Or someone like Manley, who was on our recruit list for five years before finally coming in, As much as we can debate coaching over player skill, some kids are just going to end up falling throuh, and you want to have that sort of backup to be sure you're going to get the best of the best.

I’m not sure what the numbers are for next year's forward group but a nice add could be Willie Knierim. Currently with Dubuque in the “U”. Played 2 yrs @ Miami. Turns 21 in Jan. Eligible for next season. Played with the Chicago Mission program which it appears DS has a connection and for those interested, 6’3” 206......https://www.ushl.com/view/#/player/5927/67/willie-knierim

On Sunday, the Winkler Flyers defeated the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 3-2 (1-0) in a shootout. Eric Fawkes had no points or penalties. He scored the shootout goal. He was named the #1 Star. :) https://www.mjhlhockey.ca/stats/game-summary/3342

Fawkes's line is now 18-2-5-7-8.

Edit: https://www.winklerflyers.com/flyers-extra-time-heroics-continue-in-waywayseecappo-november-4
In the shootout, Eric Fawkes would score the only goal in the three round competition as he snapped a wrist shot over the blocker arm of Wolverines’ goaltender Isaac Labelle in the second round.
