Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2018-19

RB-Any idea when was the last time we had a center who was at least 6'3" ?? Although I feel defense is where we need the size, I always yearned for us to recruit just a couple of big boys up front. Back in the 90's when Vermont had St. Louis and Perrin on the same line, they always made sure the third fellow was a big freight train. Do not recall off hand the stats for J.C Ruid but that line wrecked havoc against us (and many others certainly).

Years ago, they seemed to fake heights a lot. I don't think it is as common now. E.g., the USHL has everyone measured by the NHL CSB.

They think that he is a '20 recruit too. We'll see if that is the case. As I have written about otehrs, I doubt that either EF or coach Smith knows for sure at this time.

Chris Heisenberg also lists him as a '20 recruit.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2018-19

I will post the Spruce Grove summary in the AM. Babichuk is playing. I will also check for changes. Thursday’s NJA 16U (Mike C) box score is still not up, as are several older ones for various teams.

Hopefully Winkler will award stars.

Rookie forward Eric Fawkes picked a great time to score his first ever Manitoba Junior Hockey League goal on Friday night, as the Winkler Flyers slid past the OCN Blizzard 1-0 in overtime. Blizzard netminder Noah Giesbrecht held off the Flyers offense right to the end, stopping 45 of the 46 shots that came his way but Fawkes’ goal with 57 seconds left in overtime would be all the offense Winkler would need.

Finally, in the final minute of overtime after the Flyers had spent nearly the entire period in the Blizzard zone, the game would end thanks to Flyers forward Eric Fawkes. After picking up a loose puck in the OCN zone, Fawkes carried it back up to the Blizzard blueline, quickly curled it back towards the front of the net and beat Giesbrecht clean with a wrist shot over the blocker to notch his first goal as a Flyer and give Winkler the 1-0 win.

The link also includes this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LmrMtLUuBQ. EF's goal starts at about 0:25. First from behind the net, then slow-motion goal camera, then the slow-motion one posted earlier. Among the better Junior videos I have seen. Of course it helps when the star of the show is the player whom we are interested in. :)

The 6'3" height appears to be accurate. He probably could use a bit more weight.
