RPI Recruit Thread 2017-18

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2017-18

I intend to go to the WLC's game today, so probably Reid Leibold won't be playing. :)

Well I went to this. I am not a scout and don't really know what to look for. I probably should say no more, but I was not overly impressed. The WLC lost 6-1. Their only goal was on a two-man advantage. Amazingly enough overall the WJC seemed the better team, but ...

IIRC Leibold was not on the ice for their goal and was rarely on the ice when the other team scored. (That is good.) He is a bit undersized but is a fast skater with apparently good hockey sense. His faceoff skills could use improvement. (He will fit in well in that regard.)

Leibold seemed to leave the defensive zone often waiting for breakout passes which rarely came, and when they did his shot seemed accurate but he did score. He also usually seemed to pass well.

Maybe I will go to another game early next calendar year.

NASHVILLE (The Draft Analyst) — The 2018 NHL draft is expected to boast a talent pool rich in skill and star potential — an assessment that could force teams to decrease the number of former draft holdovers they select. Nevertheless, there always are NHL-caliber prospects who simply need to marinate an additional year or two (or three) before NHL clubs are willing to commit a valuable draft pick for them.........3) LW Jakub Lacka (Central Illinois, USHL): Slovak puck magician who has had a seamless transition to the North American game. Lacka is an outstanding playmaker and passer who effortlessly makes any teammate a threat to score. Arguably one of hockey’s top set-up forwards under the age of 20...... https://www.thedraftanalyst.com/2018-nhl-draft/2018-nhl-draft-rankings-top-250-overagers/

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2017-18

From the 2015 KHL Draft...... 3. Slovan Bratislava draft F Jakub Lacka from Ruzinov 99 Bratislava (Slovak U18 League). The first non-Russian picked in the draft is another high-scoring forward, with an eye-popping line of 38 gp, 34-43-77 this past season on Slovakia’s U18 circuit (he added another 23 points in 13 playoff games). This production earned Lacka a berth on the Slovak team at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Ontario. He will not turn 17 until November, and still has some growing to do (5’8″, 155 lbs.), but has clearly earned a shot at the next level of hockey. Of course, what becomes of Lacka in 2015-16 and beyond will depend to a certain extent on whether Slovan can maintain their KHL membership. That seems unlikely at the moment, so we will have to wait and see what happens, but this is a kid who bears some watching. https://conwaysrussianhockey.wordpress.com/2015/05/27/the-new-guys-the-top-7-at-the-2015-khl-draft/

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2017-18

Well that flew under the radar for a few days. I guess that's what happens when the player doesn't have a twitter account in today's world.

I'm guessing this means Bendorf definitely isn't coming next year. Getting 4 forwards to come in is already a lot when you're only losing 1 forward to graduation. I'm assuming Ashbrook and Lacka are coming.
Lacka will have 1 year of eligibility left so it’s possible he’s not here next year.

I said that originally and that was also what the Slovak post that I gave said (#798).

Edit: Oops the Slovak post said 2018. :o

Very true, same with Ashbrook. I don't even know how you get down to 16 forwards now. I'm thinking we have 17 or 18. Oi vey...

I agree that Bendorf probably will be 2019. I am going to change 2018 for him to 18/19 . Also Modry and Ashbrook although I think they are both coming next fall.

Edit: might as well make Lacka also 18/19.
