97 F Bailey Conger commits to St. Lawrence

St. Lawrence picked up a nice one in Bailey Conger, a forward that’s been impressing Division 1 coaches this winter in a big way for Cushing. The former Utah Regulator is the team’s third leading scorer alongside recent Boston College recruit David Cotton.

Bailey Conger, C – Cushing Academy Penguins (Mass. HS)

Conger and linemate David Cotton will both be ones to watch for the draft this season and they're already making magic. In a win over Avon Old Farms this weekend, Conger in particular was dangerous, using speed and nifty stickhandling to cut through the defense and ring up a couple of points in a 4-1 victory. He's committed to St. Lawrence University. Draft eligible in 2015.

Edit: I must admit I like the 6'1" 203 more than the 6'0" 179 on the USHL site. Hopefully, he won't show up in Troy as another 5'9" 165 pounder.

Assuming that Gillespie returns, we have probably completed our recruiting for next season. We lose three forwards, Bourbonnais, DeVito, and Wood. Their replacements are Burgess, Conger, and Ohrvall (assuming also that Burgess's injury isn't career ending). We lose one defenseman in Reno with Babichuk and Cho entering. I suspect that Babichuk will defer unless Prapavessis leaves early. Obviously other things could change.

That probably depends on this year's late additions (Reisinger and Marrello). If they prove themselves to be legitimate D-I players and not last minute roster fillers brought in to due to the loss of Burgess and Gillespie, then I think you are right.

I guess they could indeed disappear like Clary did as could Rappaport although he is a true walkon. It is hard, however, to make projections based upon one season so I suspect that unless they really are poor, they will be back. I remember that none of this year's seniors did much as Freshman, and they all are regulars now.

The North Jersey Avalanche also plays some games not in either of their leagues. They played one such on Saturday against the Selects Academy U16 team and won 4-0.
