looking at your recruit thread if all the dmen were to come in you'd have 10 on the roster with this add on. Could it be that Cho and Reilly are 2017?

Cho could certainly be for 2016. Chris Heisenberg has always listed him that way. OTOH, Reilly has been listed by everyone (Heisenberg, Elite Prospects, College Hockey Inc and their twitter feed [see below]) always as a 2016 recruit, although it certainly is possible that he could also be delayed.

If both are delayed it just moves a logjam to 2017 with only Reno graduating a year from now. However Babichuk could end up in 2017 and maybe Praps said "one more year".

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Will Reilly (Nanaimo Clippers) has committed to RPI for 2016-2017 <a href="https://twitter.com/97WillReilly">@97WillReilly</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/ClippersHockey">@ClippersHockey</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/RPI_Hockey">@RPI_Hockey</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/bchllive">@bchllive</a></p>— Hockey Commitments (@hockeycommits) <a href="https://twitter.com/hockeycommits/status/723146377144897536">April 21, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Edit" Reilly's own tweet did not mention a year.

I’m not as high on Cho as I was 2 years ago but I say either bring him in now or cut-bait (maybe they even have). As for Reilly, BIG mistake IMO if they push him back another year. This kid could be a top 6 by Nov. We may not know what’s going on behind that curtain but SA certainly does. We’ll just have to wait to maybe the golf outing to know.

We could have cut Cho, but I just don't think so. Heisenberg could have been correct all along. I agree that he should come now and I certainly am as high as you are. I too am very high on Reilly and hope he comes this fall. We could go with 9 (not 10 as WaP pointed out), and Bell could be history.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16 Part II

As has been written, there are 10 defensemen who may play for RPI next season. Usually, RPI has only eight defensemen on the roster. Nine is possible, but ten is very unlikely.

Here are my views on each of the ten, in order by class.

Class of ’17
Parker Reno is the only senior. He had a breakout season last year before being injured. I would be very surprised if he does not return.

Class of ’18
Bradley Bell appeared to be in SA’s dog house last year. He only played in three games. He could be leaving. It also was mentioned that he may be moved to forward.
Unless he turns pro, which seems unlikely this year, Michael Prapavessis will be back.
I expect Jarred Wilson also to be back. He played in all but two games last year.

Class of ’19
Tommy Grant was a late addition last summer but played an increasing role as the year progressed. He should continue to develop.
Meirs Moore was a regular as a freshman last year. I expect him to be back. He also could be moved up front, but probably won’t be.

Class of ’20
Austin Cho was expected to be the top defenseman in this class, but he was unable to get a regular spot on two teams in the BCHL last season. He eventually ended by in Georgetown (OJHL) where he fit in better. It would not be surprising if he deferred admission until 2017. That is where Chris Heisenberg has him pegged all along.
Charlie Manley was expected to be playing at RPI already. Although, as a ’96 he could be deferred again, that seems unlikely. If he doesn’t show up this year, he probably won’t show up at all. I expect him to be on the roster.
All listings which I have seen show Will Reilly as a member of this class. Although he could be deferred, he appears ready to play in the NCAA, and I expect him to be in Troy in the fall.
T. J. Samec is probably the most likely of the ten to be in Troy in the fall. He has used up his junior eligibility, and since he just committed a few days ago, one wouldn’t expect him to decommit. The only possible exception is if he runs into an NCAA problem as Brady Wiffen did a year ago, but I would think that the coaching staff is paying attention to that now.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16 Part II

This player was at the top of the list, for '99s, from SBNation’s coverage of the Chowder Cup games. Maybe some eyes from Troy will be watching when he arrives in Albany? 1999s

Curtis Abbott, PHDG Blue #14, RW, 6'2"/200 - He has a pro frame and made several nice passes from the right wall as he skated the puck up his off wing. He used his size as leverage to control the puck along the walls and down low. North Bay Battalion own his OHL rights. He's headed to Albany Academy.

I would hope so.

Here is the link for the record. http://www.sbncollegehockey.com/col...howcase-review-scouting-notes-player-rankings

BTW, the he was on top of the list only because his name was Abbott. Had it have been Zyzlowski, he would have been on the bottom. :p

Little discussion of Babichuk on this thread, and maybe for good reason. One goal in 35 games last winter and that was in Alberta Midget, not Junior A, suggests that he is not ready to add any offence at the NCAA level. I had great plans to watch one or two of his games this year but never made it. Wondering if others have seen something to suggest that he could be a real contributor in 2017? Is he going to play Junior A (Sherwood Park) this winter?

Chris Heisenberg thinks that he will be in Sherwood Park on his new 2017 list although it probably is just a guess. He should be able to make the team this time.

My feeling is that he will be delayed until 2018.

From the RPI directory:

Name: Timothy Alan Samec
Preferred name: TJ
Class: First-Year Student
Curriculum: Business and Management

That was fast. Perhaps it was in the works for longer than we knew.
Still missing: Hayhurst, Cho, Perry, Reilly.
I can't believe that either Hayhurst or Reilly isn't coming this fall, especially Perry. Hopefully neither is having troubles with admissions. OTOH, either Cho and/or Reilly could be delayed as has been discussed.

Jon Bendorf may be there too. The Atlantic District Tryout Festival was last weekend http://www.atlantic-district.org/playerdev.php#2015 (the U17 info is near the bottom), but I have not found a list of selectees.

The rosters are coming soon, whatever that means. :D http://teamusa.usahockey.com/page/show/2603660-boys-17-2016-

Edit: June is next month. :o

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16 Part II

Ed Weaver's article about the incoming class http://www.troyrecord.com/sports/20...-incoming-freshman-class-gives-rpi-high-hopes.

Perry, Burgess, Hayhurst, Polino, Manley, Reilly, and Samec. No Cho at this time, but it is Ed Weaver writing.:)

Wiffen and Tironese are also mentioned,

Here’s a capsule look at each newcomer:

Todd Burgess, 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, C-RW -- The Phoenix native is said to be one of the top forwards coming into college hockey this season. “He comes in with a lot of accolades,” Appert said. An outstanding offensive threat, Burgess is also “a complete player who plays hard,” and is a strong penalty killer. Was one of the top scorers in junior hockey last season, Burgess had 112 points (50 goals-62 assists-112) for Fairbanks of the North American Hockey League and was the captain of a championship team.

Jacob Hayhurst, 5-9, 170, C-LW -- Solid all-around player who excels as a defensive forward. Like Burgess, can help the Engineers as both a centerman and a winger. “He’s talented, competitive, skilled and tenacious,” Appert says. “He had a strong year in the USHL (United States Hockey League). He’s played in the Royal Bank Cup, has been a consistent high-impact player who can raise his game in big moments.” Had nine goals, 20 assists at Cedar Rapids of the USHL, junior hockey’s top league, after tallying 78 points (32-46-78) in 71 games in the Ontatrio Junior Hockey League in the 2014-15 season.

Pat Polino, 5-9, 162, RW-LW -- A smaller but tenacious forward who can play on both wings. “He’s an older player with a lot of experience. He’s probably got 200 games in the USHL and has been very successful,” says Appert. “He’s feisty, scrappy and tenacious, but also very talented offensively. He’s very productive but does a lot of other things to help his team win games.” In two seasons at Lincoln in the USHL, Polino had scoring lines of 15-18-33 in 60 games and 13-16-29 in 39 games.

Charles Manley, 5-11, 185, D -- Rensselaer backers have heard of Manley for several years. Appert scouted the Orchard Park native years ago and the solid defenseman committed to RPI two years ago. “He’s a puck-moving, mobile defenseman and an elite skater,” Appert says, “as good a skating defenseman as we’ve had. He uses that ability to hold down opposing scorers.” Manley has three years of junior hockey experience and totaled seven goals and 33 assists in two years in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Will Reilly, 6-2, 188, D -- The latest addition to the Class of 2020 and a good one. The Toronto native is a “strong offensive defenseman,” Appert says. “He’s good on the power play and can shoot the puck.” Reilly played one year for North York in the OJHL, scoring 36 points (17-19-36) in 53 games and often headmanning the power play. Whether or not Reilly will be a lineup regular right away, Appert says he has a “good upside.”

T.J. Samec, 6-1, 201, D -- The latest addition to the RPI program is an excellent one. The St. Paul, Minn. native is a tough, hard-nosed defender who also possesses a big league slapshot. He captained his NAHL team in Brookings and tallied 10 goals, 15 assists in 60 games last season.

Chase Perry, 6-2, 191, G -- The Andover, Minn. native is said to be as good as any goaltender coming into college hockey this season. Actually, it’ll be a return to the college game for him. Perry played one season at Colorado College in 2014-15 after being selected in the fifth round of the NHL first-year player draft by the Detroit Red Wings. Perry left school, returned to juniors and posted a 2.66 goals against average and 90.0 saves percentage in 52 games at Wenatachee of the BCHL. “He’s a big, mobile athletic goaltender who has a chance to be an elite college goalie,” Appert said. “We’re excited to have him.”

Both Reilly and Samec are the lastest addition. (I suppose that it is possible that considering his age, Samec might graduate in 2019.)

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2015-16 Part II

I should also add this.

Appert says he and his assistants -- Bryan Vines, Nolan Graham and Marc Cavosie “may add another forward and we still need to get a third goalie for practice purposes.”

Also, Bell and all of the other nongraduating d-men are mentioned. So that means 9 on defense, and Ed calculated that correctly. :) He did write "C.J" instead of "T.J." Samec. He also missed Miller among the graduating forwards. There is more, but I better stop. :)
