Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14

Seth was busy, Alec Dillon, goalie, is committed to RPI

https://twitter.com/Canuckscout/status/381963677001199617

Edit: Alec is 17, first year in BCHL and is 6ft 5!

At his age-he could still add another inch or two. There is certainly no grass growing under our coach's feet. It would not surprise me if he is already looking for a goalie for a few years after Dillon.

BTW some sources list him as 6'6" and 170 pounds. He could pass for a goal post until he puts on a few pounds.

Edit: Alberni Valley is at Victoria on Friday. So Wilson may face Dillon if the latter is in the net.

Definitely looking for the wiry types similar to York. In any case, we look forward to good stuff from him.

Considering Diebold is going to be a junior this year and Kasdorf could be called up to the pros after this year at any time (we all hope he stays the full four, but you never know), I would not be surprised if Coach needs some goaltenders in his pocket. I think we'll see another one on the list soon.

I hope he has stopped growing or will soon. At some point the trade-off between size and dexterity has got to become counterproductive. Living in Boston and watching Zdeno Chara play has made it clear to me that there are great advantages when the puck is 10 feet away but disadvantages when you need to react quickly to things at your feet.

We definitely need goalies in our pocket, but I hope we can wait with him until at least 2015. I suppose that he could back up Diebold next season if, perish the thought, Kasdorf leaves next summer.

I hope that he has stopped growing vertically, but he has to grow some horizontally. We had that discussion in regard to Sean Sanford.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14

Jared Wilson's twitter page states "Rensselaer (RPI) 14/15". Unless he is related to fr joe ;) , I think this means he could come either in 2014 or 2015.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14

A recent article about Dillon http://www.timescolonist.com/sports...ies-goalie-alec-dillon-a-tall-talent-1.608155.

Edit: Dr. must have read the above article:

Perhaps they read my post:)-I have no clue about most of these sites. At his height, 170 pounds is concentration camp thin. Granted goaltending is not the most physical position and we should not expect him to be crosschecked all over the place-but still, I would think he needs at least 30+ pounds on that frame unless he is also trying out for the high jump team.

We met steve McKenna when he cam in to play RPI while a defenseman for Merrimack back in the 90's. Jen and i had a few drinks with him at the bar at the old Rensselaer Inn(or whatever it was called in those days). He fit your description of Chara very aptly. Long reach, but not as adept with stuff going on at his feet. What struck me most however, is that Jen (who is 4'10" without her stilettos on) barely came up to above his navel. He was of course far heavier and stockier than our new recruit and built much more like Chara is.

My speculation is that he is recruited for ether 2015 or 2016 (depending on when Kasdorf leaves), and under no circumstances would he arrive in 2014. If Kasdorf jumps after this year, I would think we would replace him with someone with experience but likely with limited upside.

He could also be Diebold's replacement. I think that it is unlikely that he will come next year, but if Kasdorf leaves early, I think he could be the backup. I do think that 2015 is the most likely arrival year.
