RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

Just throwing this out there....Kevin O’Neil (Forward) from Alb. Acad. has been invited to the USAH Select 16s. He was an invite to the USHL Combines (for Sioux City) that were held last month .....https://twitter.com/russbites/status/468947049418072064

I couldn't find much about him, but I suspect that we will have a difficult time beating #26 for local recruits of his age group.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

A new WaP article about our 16 known recruits and when they are likely to come to Troy. The article pretty much agrees with my thoughts which probably means that there will be several surprises when SA's annual recruit announcement comes out and then again the fall.

I decided to give my take on who is likely to arrive in the fall based purely upon what I have found out on the Net.

Goalies:
Dillon is unlikely to arrive until 2015 unless Kasdorf leaves or doesn't recover. Give it a 15% chance.

Forwards:
Gillespie 99% chance he is coming. (He could get some fatal disease or ...)
Melanson 98% chance. (As opposed to Gillespie he has junior eligibility left.)
Nanne 95% chance. (He didn't have a great season in the USHL, but I suspect he is continuing to heal from his injuries.)
Tironese 80% chance. (He committed two years ago and has not yet shown up in the directory. Is he having some trouble getting through admissions? I don't know, but until he shows up there, it's 75 - 80 %. He will go up to the high 90's when he is in the directory.)
Liljegren 60% chance. (It was written that he was a 2014 or 2015, and he isn't in the directory yet.)
Rodriguez 35% chance. (The fact that he committed on the same day as Haggerty bailed out, I originally thought made him likely to come in 2014. Those odds are slowly decreasing.)
Fornaris 25% chance. (He needs more seasoning, but still could arrive in the fall.)
Burgess 5% chance. (Never said he would be here this fall, but he is old enough so could be a fall back if some of the above have troubles.)
Hayhurst <1% chance. (He is still an HS junior.)

Defensemen:
Wilson 99% chance. (Everything points to him arriving this fall.)
Moore 90% chance. (He didn't have a great year in the USHL, but as WaP wrote this was probably [hopefully] due to the situation he was in at Fargo.)
Prapavessis 55% chance. (WaP said it well. One couldn't ask for a better season than he had this year. He could improve if he goes to Lincoln and I suspect they are kicking themselves for not taking him a year ago. If he gets drafted by the NHL, we may have to take him to keep him from major junior, and I suspect he will be a regular on the blue line at the HFH as the season progresses. He would also become also essentially a sure thing to be in Troy this fall of one of our returning dmen turns pro.)
Bell 20% chance. (His injury set him back quite a bit, and he needs seasoning against better competition somewhere.)
Manley 10% chance. (He could come but he needs another year to develop. The odds that he would be here this fall would also be higher if he was not #5 on this list.)
Cho <1% chance. (He is still an HS junior.)

Not long after the announcement of the RPI Women's 2014-15 schedule comes the announcement of the incoming freshman class: http://rpiathletics.com/news/2014/5/23/WICE_0523143711.aspx

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

I watched tonight’s game on fasthockey. I now see what you’ve been telling us Doc, Melanson is some skater. Right away I noticed who’s style of skating he reminds me of.....D’Amigo. He has that “running” style that is also similar to Ovie. Looking forward to seeing him at the HFH.

Turk-hard to really say. Looks different at various times-sometimes more Juneauesque. At Delbarton he reminded me(skating style only) more of a fellow I just loved in Troy-Brad Tapper. Seems to be going fast-and looking effortlessly doing it-and then all of a sudden a little bit of a second gear kicks in. I truly hope our coaching staff knows how to make the best use of that talent.

Overall play seems more like Juneau than Tapper. I can't comment on skating style. Since Melanson is from NJ, there is another similarity to Juneau -- he'll be arriving in Troy with a poor command of the English language. :D

I certainly wouldn't mind if his production was like either Juneau or Tapper.

Better though that he is coming from NJ-if he was coming out of Washington DC I would suspect he would be speaking out of both sides of his mouth.:) His production in Troy will be very much determined by the style he is asked to play and who he is on the ice with. Flat out wide open hockety and he will be tough for anyone to catch. But hockey is just so much more of a team sport than most other sports-linemates have to match up well or else a lot of quickness and speed is just wasted.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

Just saw that the London Knights (own Praps’ rights) have inked Tyler Nother a Dman committ for Miami.

You are correct of course. We will all have to wait.

USHL tryout camp dates.

I couldn't find Waterloo's dates, and the USHL website, which appears to have a complete list, is down.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

An interview with Alec Dillon on The Pipeline Show http://www.thepipelineshow.com/media_detail.php?show=1389675600&sn=9 (segment 5). I don't recall hearing this before although it is several months old.

I didn't like the interviewers suggesting after the interview that the Edmonton Oil Kings would probably be a better fit.
Now that Edmonton has just won the Memorial Cup I wonder how much pressure they’ll put on Dillon now. Edm.’s goalie, Tristan Jarry (2nd rd. pick of Pittsburgh) still has a year of eligibility left and might even have 2 with an overager tag.

I haven't followed the Memorial Cup, but your comment makes it sound like they won't need him. That's good.

Modified from USHL site list http://www.ushl.com/?item_id=2580

Code:
Cho Lincoln 06/12-06/15
Dillon Tri-City 06/16-06/21

Hayhurst Cedar Rapids 05/29-06/01
Manley Waterloo 06/29-05/01 That's what it says. I assume it should be 05/29-06/01.
Prapavessis Lincoln 06/12-06/15
Rodriguez Sioux City 05/30-06/01

5/29-6/1 is what I saw for Waterloo yesterday but then I got lost on a “Bunny Trail” and couldn’t find it again to provide a link.
