RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

3. 95 F Alex Rodriguez – RPI – #10

RPI picked up a skater who likely won’t leave campus early as a pro, but under the prowess of coach Seth Appert could come out a highly regarded college UFA if this summer’s draft doesn’t see the late-1995s name called. Rodriguez brings relentless work ethic that wears down the opposition and an ability to capitalize on open space and offensive opportunities......http://overtheboards.net/htl-bracket-week-1999s/

Thanks for the link. Assuming that he comes this fall, I wonder how rapidly he will adapt to the college game.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

On Saturday and Sunday, Shattuck-St Mary's defeated Team Wisconsin 5-1 and 4-2. Alex Rodriguez had a goal and five assists in total. (No boxscore links. I just subtracted his old stats from his new. http://ssmhockey.org/boys-prep-stats/)

Rodriguez's line is now 47-22-39-61-22.

On Wednesday, the Toronto Lake Shore Patriots defeated the Georgetown Raiders 4-1. They lead their best-of-7 playoff series 1-0. Michael Prapavessis had an assist and a tripping penalty. Jacob Hayhurst had no points or penalties. http://ojhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=2416937

Prapavessis' playoff line is now 10-0-10-10-2.
Total 57-5-59-64-4.
Hayhurst's playoff line is now 10-6-3-9-6.
Total 58-19-22-41-46.

MP's last and only previous penalty this year was for hooking on 9/16/13. After that he had played 42 regular season and 9 playoff games without any penalties.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

If he does not take a lot of penalties-he might be coming to the wrong school. But then again, he might start playing the Engineer way.

He certainly hasn't taken many penalties this season. I hope it is because he is never out of position and not because he plays softly. He seemed fine in the few videos which I have seen. As I wrote earlier, it must be rare for a defenseman to win a league's Most Gentlemanly Player award.

you must have been reading my mind. The way the officials call the NCAA level games, at least from what I see in the ECAC, a defenseman cannot be doing his job if he is not called for something every so often. Anytime you hold a forward up from crossing the blue line on a dump in, push someone away from the crease, force someone up against the boards-one of the zebras is likely to call something-if only to even up the number of penalties called late in a game. I would hope your thought about always being in position is the correct one-but i sort of doubt it.

Of course he was named both to the OJHL 1st All-Star team and the All Prospect team as well as being named the best dman. Someone must think that isn't a problem, and they have actually seen him play. Let's say we have other recruits more I am more concerned about, but only one penalty in the entire regular season is amazing at D.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

See Prapavessis on list..........TORONTO -- It's Thursday afternoon and NHL Central Scouting is in the difficult stage of ranking the top North American skaters and goalies for the 2014 NHL Draft at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia......http://www.nhl.com/ice/blogpost.htm?id=27670&navid=nhl:topheads

And another reason that I should not be concerned about MP's defense and should be more concerned about him never showing up. instead. (Not that it seems like that will happen at the moment.)

Even if he shows up-how long will he stay? There is just so much to worry about. Just relax and enjoy the ride-let's just see how it all works out. It certainly appears like we landed a good boy that others think very highly about. Hopefully we have other talent to surround him with.
