RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13 (Part III)

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13 (Part III)

I agree. It just is my opinion that even though attendance and the atmosphere is not what it once was at the HFH, it is still better than at most of the schools we recruit against and can be used as a recruiting tool.

This has nothing to do with hockey, but it does have everything to do with recruiting.
When my daughter was looking at schools, she made two official visits. Both schools had great academic reputations and were in locations that were within her parameters.
She chose RPI based on the diving coach and the student body. Both of her visits were overnighters so she got to meet not only the teams, but also a number of the students outside the swimming and diving teams.
Watching a swim meet had very little to do with the choice. The decision was made based on the people involved.
I can't believe that the incoming hockey players would be any different. They have to feel welcome and comfortable with their peers.

The difference is that men's hockey at RPI is a D-I sport that has student and local interest. Swimming does not. Although I would still think that the coaches and current players are of foremost importance, watching a hockey game at RPI is a recruiting tool. JMHO. :)

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13 (Part III)

I didn't realize that swimming has attendance numbers with four digits now. It didn't when I was a student.

Ralph, I agree that there is less interest in swimming, but the reasons for attending a university are more about compatibility than attendance at an event.
If the recruit likes the coach and his teammates, then you are half way there. However, if he does not like the coach or his teammates, you have no chance.

I am in agreement. All I ever said was that hockey game attendance is a recruiting tool.

Let's close the topic.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13 (Part III)

I think that is spot on. Time after time you hear recruits (at RPI and elsewhere) state that "the school felt right", the team was welcoming, etc. With a guy like Moores - my guess is that he may have initially met the team when they were out in MN for games - unless that is a violation in which case, I'm dead wrong....:D
He also played against Reno.

Why would that be a violation? You're allowed to make as many unofficial visits as you want, and you're allowed to contact coaches as many times as you want (the rules state the coach is only allowed to seek you out once a year).

You are assuming Logic. I would like to do that also, but the NCAA rules are far from logical. One type of contact may be allowed, but something that may seem quite similar to a sane person may verboten.

Are we just passing time? Or has this thread just went way beyond bordedom? There is little if any hockey stuff to post-I think I have far more interest right now on the Kate Upton thread.

Is she being recruited? ;)

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13 (Part III)

Most of this is already known, but I have just learned second hand (or maybe third) that Fornaris, Manley , Melanson, Moore, and Tironese are all on their USHL team's 30-man roster. Prapavessis is on Lincoln's affiliate list meaning that they can call him up during the year.

Yes indeed Green Bay has used a spot for Tironese. We should learn where he will be soon since Alberni Valley plays an exhibition game in under three weeks. Also the 30-man rosters still will have cuts. It is just about time to start a new thread too.
