Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13 (Part II)

On Sunday, the Alberni Valley Bulldogs lost to the Nanaimo Clippers 6-3. Evan Tironese had no points or penalties. http://www.bchl.ca/leagues/hockey_boxscores.cfm?clientID=1413&leagueID=2393&gameID=1103186&link=bchl

Tironese's line is now 49-19-36-55-58.
ET has put up some very nice numbers in the BCHL...as a comparison, substantially more than Zalewski put up in his 1st BCHL season (yes, I understand every team / player/ season is different) but if he can keep up this progression, he will be a weapon for RPI. Anyone have any idea or thought as to whether ET will stay in the BCHL or head to USHL ?

He is also younger than Zalewski was, but he doesn't have nearly the size of Z.

I suspect that he will stay in the BCHL, but that is not based on anything but a guess.

I think Coach Appert will be implementing the Nick Quinn rule: If they're not ready for RPI yet, and they're Canadian, keep them in Canada. I only foresee US-born players, or any players from other countries (such as Bubela) being recommended to try out for the USHL. Granted, there are exceptions to every rule.

When the hell was that ever a rule, and why would it apply to Nick Quinn?

Jake Wood is from Ontario and he's playing in the USHL. Why is Coach Appert breaking the Nick Quinn rule?

That is certainly strange. I suspect that SA would prefer that recruits play in the USHL. However I doubt that he would be allowed to insist upon it. As far as Quinn is concerned, the problem wasn't that SA didn't want him to play in the USHL, it was that Jim Montgomery thought that he was allowed one more import player than he was actually allowed, and Quinn was the odd man out.

are you just comparing first year numbers?......because this is ET's second year in the B.

Not to mention that Quinn was slated to play for Monty in Dubuque before he made the biggest mistake of his young life (thanks Dad) and jumped to the O. Last I heard he was playing for Univ. of Guelph.

yes -- only because his 2nd season is ongoing. I guess I was more interested in where folks see him come next season.. I have no strong sense or concern either way (USHL or BCHL)

But wasn't he the youngest (or one of the youngest) players in the league last season? That also counts.

No concern here either. One can develop quite well in either league. The USHL is better, but the BCHL is quite good too.

I see where he was announced as a 2012 Guelph recruit but I don't see him on their roster or in the team picture.

Shame indeed. Or perhaps his crashing out of the O is an indication that we dodged a bullet? Hard to say.
