Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13 (Part II)

There has been 1:25 left in this game since 3:18 PM, over an hour ago. I am getting bored waiting. :) I'll check later if Michael Prapavessis got an assist on an ENG or something else.

On Monday, the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots defeated the Burlington Cougars 4-3. Michael Prapavessis had an assist. http://ojhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=1990053

Prapavessis' line is now 23-1-8-9-0.

The above stats are correct.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2012-13 (Part II)

do you think it might be getting a little ridiculous with some of these "early" signings? This kid just turned 15....TWO WEEKS AGO! Clik on Michigan St. (Mitch Elliot).... http://www.westerncollegehockeyblog.com/

With rare exceptions-it is almost impossible to predict that early what will happen to a kid as he matures in 4-6 years. But this is the nature of things as it stands now. The competition among the top 15-20 NCAA division I programs is fierce and with the threat of many of their boys leaving early to the pros-the need for early signings to reload the program is pronounced. I doubt that this will happen, but if kids could not sign a pro contract and leave school until the end of their 3rd year or some specified age-this might change somewhat.

It could, but unless an NCAA rule is put in place, I think that schools will keep this practice.

This point was raised a couple years ago, and by doing this (pro contract signing), you have given any player that is on the fringe that extra push to go to Major Junior. You can get away with it in football and basketball because the NCAA truly is a monopoly. This is another reason why schools place one year terms on scholarships with a renewal every year. Aside from the fact that it forces the player to "earn their check", it also gives them the freedom to have options, and is something that many people want in their lives. This is actually a reason why I never buy a Verizon product. The contract and payment structure is not something by which I wish to be enslaved.

Never can tell what the NCAA will come up with next-so nothing is out of the question. But if it makes good sense, then of course they probably won't do it.
