Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2011-12 Part II

Melanson with 2 goals in todays game....and his 1st penalty 5-2-5-7-2 http://www.usahockey.com/Tournament...?EventID=2906&AgeDivisionID=2100&GameID=43012
With his late rush, he finished tied for second in scoring in the tourney. http://www.usahockey.com/Tournament/TopScorers.aspx?EventID=2906&AgeDivisionID=2100 Just for the record, it was a one-minute penalty. (I guess because the games were only 50-minutes long.)

Hopefully, USHR will have a report on the tourney.

Drew Melanson has been selected to the US Ivan Hlinka tourney team according to this post http://finishyourcheck.com/topic/65...opment-camp/page__view__findpost__p__14732464 on a thread about the Select 17 tourney. There is no other mention of Melanson on the thread besides for the All-Star game roster. I wonder if SA will be coaching that team.

Part of me really loves that he seems to just keep getting better and can play well as the competition increases. Part of me just would rather not see so much progrssion (until he gets to Troy) for fear that he may just receive so much attention that other options open up quickly. From our observations over the past 2 years-and from very bright hockey people we know who have seen him-he is an extremely talented young man.

I had the same thoughts. WE do need to get such talented players.

Ralph-He is going to be a good one. I am very sure of that. I just want to see him be a good one in Troy (and hopefully for several years). After the loss of Pirri and D'Amigo I have had more concern about players leaving early. In the past when we lost one of our better players-Tapper, Cavosie, Oates-at least it was after 3 years. In today's market-you just never know what opportunites will present themselves and we can hardly blame anyone for taking advantage when they can.

We're in complete agreement. Before Pirri and D'Amigo the only one we lost to the pros in fewer than three years was Puppa after two. The top echelon of schools lose a couple to the pros each year and can plan for it. If we lose one or two every once in a while in an unpredictable fashion it seems worse.

RPI recruit may have had the best feet here—his skating is effortless. Is on the slight side, but his speed, quickness and agility make him extremely hard to contain. Was quiet at the start of the tournament, but exploded for five points in his final two games. Was a teammate of Baiocco’s at Delbarton, but will not be returning as he has chosen to play his senior with the Omaha Lancers (USHL). Was named to the U18 Select team headed overseas.

Description absolutely fits with what we saw for the past 2 years at Delbarton. He is as fast as anyone we have ever seen and it indeed seems effortless-and BTW under control. I would love to see a little more size and strength added but there is plenty time for that. Baiocco had a fine career at Delbarton-There was a lot of interest in him and i think he has chosen one of the Ivies.
