Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2011-12 Part II

not much on the Lincoln web page on the draft. Here's a short overview of Jake Wood...........3rd Round: Jake Wood - Forward - 5'8", 165 pounds - 8/6/93
The native of Georgetown, Ontario, Canada played for Gunnery Prep School in Washington, CT last season. I haven't been able to find any stats for Wood from last season. In the article I linked above it states that Jake is averaging just over a point per game. Wood graduated from The Gunnery in 2012. Wood has committed to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institution (RPI) for the fall of 2013...........and just to put a face to the name, from The Gunnery site; http://portal.gunnery.org/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=470&ContentID=15228 I sent his stats (thanks to Ralph's tireless work) to the writer on the Lincoln page.

I hadn't seen that link to the Gunnery school blurb. It's dated February and calls us the #10 team in the country.
I do want to add that I wasn't keeping track of his stats since they are only available on USHR.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2011-12 Part II

Video about the 2011 Minnesota Class A championship http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hwvTZQHnwA. There is a lot about Andrew Commers (#21) at about 1:40. Some nice goals by Zach Schroeder (#9) also.

I've read a lot of articles and blog posts about Commers over the past few days. Seems like the kid has legit talent with a lot of posters commenting on his hustle and speed...and that he has DI skills. I guess I'm having a hard time seeing why he wasnt headed to the USHL ...and why DI teams didnt recruit him. He couldnt have been overlooked, having played a very active role on a very successful MN H.S. team.

In any event, I'm looking forward to seeing him...and getting him on a line with Schroeder. We're keeping the MN pipeline open ...I like it! :D

Perhaps they expected him to go to Major Junior? Either that or would be easily able to make it on an open tryout? Either way, just like Polacek, I expect Commers to compete for serious playing time right away. Maybe he'll be that ace in the hole for the 2015-2016 season as a senior. ;)

A couple posters on that high school hockey forum mentioned he was looking into playing for Saint Johns, a D3 school in Minnesota. Perhaps that turned away a few colleges that might have been interested in him at the time. Anyway im looking forward to seeing what he can do in the cherry and white over the next 4 years.

Completely agree RH. Glad to have him and look forward to seeing what he can do!

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2011-12 Part II

Just looking ahead a bit, it seems our 2013 recruit class is starting to take shape. Were only losing Burgdoerfer, Lee, O'Grady up front and with Devito, Bubela and Wood already recruited, could be all set in that department. Im pretty sure we'll just replace Merriam with a walk-on and return to two scholarship goalies. Then we just need to find a replacement for Bailen. Things are looking good, id say. :)

Really nice write-up on Melanson in USHR. Billed as a potential all-american in college. Sounds like a great pick up and congrats to you guys!

Thanks. Havent checked USHR since the season ended. Heres the piece on Melanson.

1. Drew Melanson, F—RPI recruit is an absolute stud and someone who has All-American college potential. The Delbarton star forward is a beautiful skater with superb puck skills. Was nursing an injury over the weekend, but was still in a league of his own. The 5’11” speedster projects to have a strong season next year, and we think he stands a good chance to be selected in the 2013 NHL draft.

Kinda sounds like we wont see him for all 4 years at RPI...

That's the one reason that I would like him to remain at Delbarton -- it would indicate that he regards an education as important, and would indicate he was likely to stay longer at RPi also.

Agree strongly RB-Jen and I have seen him several times. There is of course no way to predict how a boy progresses but everyone we know or talk with label him as a can't miss. We suspect an early draft round pick for him. There are very few questions about him although we would like to see some bulk added. he is an absolute top notch prospect. In this day and age-with economics playing such a big role-cannot even venture a guess about whether he stays in Troy for 4 years or not.

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2011-12 Part II

I am quite surprised that Commers is a walk-on. He must really want to start college now instead of going to the USHL.
