Rpi@qu 2/5/22

Another Saturday, another shutout. Marshall did everything possible to get the win but the lack of a goal scorer is just killing this team.

That game encapsulated Linden Marshall. Overall good, with some brilliant saves, including an exceptional save in the 3rd on a 3 on 2. But the goal he let in was very soft (shot along the ice from along the boards at the faceoff circle hashmarks against the boards.

How did you like Hobey Baker Rink (despite the result)? And did you see the good doctor there?

It was nice, very homey. I thought it was weird from the outside and looked like a church. When you get inside it just has a nice feel to it even though it's small. The PUC is also very nice but in a very different way as it's much more modern. Nice atmosphere in it too

Edit: did not see the doctor sadly

I agree but I think if Q painted those poured concrete walls any other color than the current grey, it would be way better. It's just a weird contrast with the bright modern lighting on the rink.

I agree with that. Having more color would make it better. I enjoyed sitting in the student section with my friend at QU. I was surprised I didn't get any grief for my RPI sweater :-D

I wondered why there was a single red dot surrounded by QU yellow. The People's United Bank Center is a nice building but the atmosphere was actually a bit muted compared to earlier years. The actual number of bodies in the building was probably in the neighborhood of 2500-2700 in a building that usually seats about 3400 with several hundred standing room.

Obviously Covid is influencing attendance everywhere, but I was shocked that QU was advertising $10 tickets to the public for the Yale game next week. It was rescheduled to a Tuesday which would keep some from attending, but QU and Yale has been a guaranteed full house at either rink since the Bobcats joined the league. I went to an RPI-QU women's game about a decade ago and before it even started students were lining up for that night's men's game against Yale and as I left the line was several hundred long and other people were waiting outside the box office (presumably to get any last minute tickets when the windows opened). Is Covid that big an influence? Has QU become complacent about being at the top of the league? Is Yale no longer interested in losing to the team that used to be their local little brother?
