Yes..October 19th. Start time will be 'loosey goosey" but I'll start my set up at around 2pm (I'll most likely tell everyone to show up around 3pm...any later and it will complicate "break down"). Exact location TBD; we've had the previous fall tailgates up in Lot D but had a parents only one at the end of the season in the lot across from the rink (inside the bus stop...worked out so well...kept wind from blowing out the fire pit!). I have to get permission and arrange any allowable parking so stand by for more details. Fishcore with his monster grill and I will my Camp Chef oven/grill will certainly expand the scope of offerings that folks can bring.

My suggestion for all who attend: bring something to share with about 15-20 people (there will be many more than that but variety will beat out quantity); also bring your beverage of choice (that always seems to work out just fine ;) ). NO dish assignments will be given and I will say this only once...don't show up as a 'taker'. We're all in it to participate and SHARE.

The incoming players' parents will all hopefully be in attendance so you can welcome them at a great event!

This is becoming a tradition that I, personally, would love to see continue ad infinitum...:)

Great, thanks. This may be a date I can do. I may have a football game that day (not me playing, but the kids I coach) so I might not be able to go, but I can arrange for someone to get the cake either through here or one of my friends can drop it off. If I am there, it's going to be great fun. If I'm not there, it won't be. :D

Looks like an early wake up call in Boston will be needed to get home for setup of the tailgate. Will have to stop drinking early friday night. :)

This is based upon 5 October 2013 for the start of next season.

Does anyone have any recommendations about where to stay in/near troy? The dump that I stayed at the last two years is now a member of a chain and almost twice as expensive and probably not worth it.

BTW, why did we pick Parents' Weekend for the tailgate? Besides for weather likely to be better than another time, it's probably the least attractive weekend of the season with only one game and an opponent whom I care very little about. (Note to the Woof Gods, this was not a woof. :) )

Weather aside, parents weekend is the driver I think. The gathering has always had a strong showing of player parents - including the freshmen - a nice way to introduce the new parents to the RPI hockey "family".

RB - If you are in Troy, IMO the only decent spot worthy of consideration is the Hilton Garden Inn. It is right on Hoosick just down the block from Burdett. In addition to being closest to HFH, it has the added bonus of attracting many a pre and post game RPI fan, parents & the occasional player to its Recovery Room restaurant. You wouldn't even need a car, if you didn't want to rent one...I'd bet they have a shuttle to/from the airport.

The next best option would be Holiday Inn Express in Latham -- straight shot over Alternate Rte. 7 to the Latham exit -- you're staring at the hotel when you get off the ramp.

EDIT: RB - I just checked, the Hilton Garden Inn is booked up for Parents weekend. Looks like the Holiday Inn is your option.

We stayed there for graduation several years ago. One thing we liked about it was that they did not jack up the rates for the weekend like many of the Troy-based hotels do. I remember talking to the desk clerk at the now-defunct Americana (or whatever it was called before it became the dorm at the bottom of the hill next to the bowling alley). She was quite upfront that they jacked up the rates for Parents' Weekend and graduation since they had near-monopoly power over forced buyers.

It's also a quick and easy ride into Troy on Route 7 (assuming you have a car, or a driver to pick you up).

Ralph, can you identify the place where you stayed the last two years, so I can take your glowing recommendation into account next time I'm looking for a place to stay in the Troy area?

The Stay Inn. It wasn't bad when it was IIRC $60/night.

Ralph - Im not sure where the Stay Inn is located ...?

The other thought I had to keep you in town was the Best Western - now owned by Franklin Square/Michael DiCocco a local caterer with a great reputation. He bought the hotel and renovated it a few years back in order to serve his catering/wedding business next door at the Franklin Plaza. They're showing rooms available.
