Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

I never noticed until just now how many southpaws we have on the team. Just 8 right handed players (4 on D, 4 forwards).

All four forwards we lost from last year (that includes Commers) were right-handed shots.

BTW, they have updated many heights and weights from last year also.

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

......it also looks like they did some weight and height measuring. Looks to be about right going off of what I asked/saw @ the golf outing.

Craig Bokenfohr is on the 2013 golf roster http://www.rpiathletics.com/roster.aspx?roster=213&path=golf, so my thought that he would be on an athletic scholarship this year was wrong.

They have put up many of the rosters including I think all of the fall sports, but I think all still default to last year, and you have to switch the year. In some cases, e.g. football, even that doesn't work, but it is there. http://www.rpiathletics.com/roster.aspx?roster=212&path=football

In these listings, are they truly left handed or do they just list that they take shots from the left side? I have known lots of hockey players who shoot from the left handed side but are true right handed people.

It's just the way they shoot. I have no idea why flagdude would have brought any other notion into consideration.

Today is 26 August 2013. There are 40 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 5 October 2013 for the start of next season.

Hey now, if they swing the lumber left-handed, they're most perfectly welcome to celebrate August 13th with my kind.

From what I understand, the upper hand controls the puck; the lower hand guides the direction of the stick. The BRO is technically right-handed (switch hitter in baseball, but mostly batted left-handed). I think it's what's comfortable because there are plenty of right-handed players who shoot right too). Discuss among yourselves :)...

Perhaps Jericho should be the permanant thread-title namer. He did a great job with this one. :D

Perhaps that's why they say that left-handed people are better at video games (although I'm waiting to see the research because I don't believe it)... the left hand is on the D-pad, and so is better able to control the character. Perhaps that's why I play bass "right-handed", I have more control on the fingerboard than the strum action.

Re: RPI Offseason Part II: Mindless Drivel.

I have known lots of hockey players who shoot from the left handed side but are true right handed people.

That's my situation: in softball I throw with right hand and bat right-handed but in hockey the blade of the stick is to my left side.

For me at least, that is partly because of how I use the legs: when I kick, my left foot is my "plant" foot and I kick with the right foot; in basketball my left foot is my "jump" foot for a layup, and so, since I derive the power of the shot (for me) from pushing my body forward with the left leg it just "fits" to have the blade to the left.
