RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

US up 10-6 in Ryder Cup!! Ooopps is this the wrong thread for that? C u 2morrow Aspydad....
Only posts about Craig Bokenfohr's golf exploits are permitted, and RPI is off this weekend. :p It was posted before by someone, but I wonder if he will continue playing golf now.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Who's Freddy Meyer? :o

Freddy Meyer is a former Boston University player that had a decent career in the NHL, and has now turned to coaching. He is considered by many old-timers on this board to be "a hack", and has therefore been given a relevant meme on this board regarding this. Freddy Meyer and subsequent hacking is very typically referenced in polls (or poles, as some like to call them) on this forum, especially in the Rep Retirement Lodge.

In honor of Luke Curadi and Katie Daniels, today is 1 October 2012. There are 5 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is scheduled.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Does anyone have any idea what kind of game we can expect from the Axemen?
I don't know about the rest of you, but that name scares me.

Yes, Acadia is a fairly physical team, even by CIS standards. If they get down early they can get a bit undisciplined in "trying to change their game".

They play on the only Olympic-sized ice surface in their conference. They are off to a decent start so far in the exhibition pre-season.

I thought they underachieved last season, with a 16-10-2 record in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) conference, good enough for 5th place. I had predicted at the start of the season that they'd finish 2nd or 3rd. They went 1-4-1 to close out the regular season, and lost to UPEI in three close games in the first round of the playoffs.

So Acadia has a bit to prove this year. They're playing Moncton on Wednesday, and those games can get a bit chippy.

I haven't seen them yet this year, so I can't give you any real input on how different they are from last season.

Thanks for the input Freddy, scouting reports are never a bad thing.
Since we had such a good game against them last season, I am guessing that they will be coming in for revenge.
The Engineers better keep their heads up. Don't want to start the season on injured reserve.
Will RPITV be streaming this game?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Acadia is a cheap shot team. CIS teams, particularly in the AUS conference (the CIS version of Hockey East) tend to play a fairly physical pro-style game. They don't have any skilled speed-burners destined for the NHL, but a lot of solid, decently-skilled graduates of Major Junior (or Junior A) hockey taking advantage of their CHL education packages to get a degree. And prepare for a second-chance at pro hockey. Most likely the ECHL or Europe, but the odd guy makes the AHL and a rare few make the NHL (Joel Ward, Darryl Boyce). So the offensive guys work on their defensive game to try to prepare for a pro career as a two-way player, or even a grinder.

UNB is one of the few CIS teams that plays an uptempo puck-pursuit, puck-possession game. Alberta is another. Many teams play what I would call a counter-attack game, scoring off the rush on turnovers. Moncton is like that and sometimes Acadia. The rest play old fashioned chip and chase, or dump and chase. The problem is, I see most AUS teams when they are playing against UNB, and almost of them then play a "safe" defensive collapse-back game against the Varsity Reds in the style of the NY Rangers, or even worse, a neutral zone trap (StFX).

Reminder that single game tickets are on sale at the HFH starting today. Surprisingly, I got through on the first try.

The weekly message from Kevin Beattie mentions that WRPI will cover Saturday's game but doesn't mention RPI-TV. Is there some problem causing WRPI not to produce video?

I wouldn't be surprised if they were looking at canning the feed until homecoming sold out.

Acadia is listed on the poster we saw at Hockey Line, so unless something's gone wrong there should be video, I assume? ( http://i.imgur.com/RaslN.jpg )

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

FWIW, we received 5 points in the first USCHO poll. http://www.uscho.com/rankings/d-i-mens-poll/2012-2013/poll,1001/october-1,-2012/ Of course, as is usual this time of year, so did almost everyone else (40 schools in total).

According to that poll-there are 5 ECAC teams with more votes than we received. That of course would place us 6th which is just about where most posters have put us in VicB's contest. Very consistent I would say. Of course I expect us to be a bit higher.:)

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

When will we be starting the first of hopefully many in season threads? Even though this first game is an exhibition-it really should be considered the beginning of the season.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Did anyone go to the TU Center today to pickup tickets for the RPI/Union game on Jan. 26? In the letter that came with season tickets it said you could pick up your tickets starting today.

I didnt make it today. Hopefully later this week. Given my past experiences with the TUC box office, I fully expect to met with blank stares and lots of stammering while they call upstairs.
