RPI Off-Season III: Another Helping of Mindless Speculation and Idle Chit Chat

Re: RPI Off-Season III: Another Helping of Mindless Speculation and Idle Chit Chat

Just curious here, does anyone know what the status is of the proposal to have the full face cage removed and replaced with the half shield? I only bring it up because this is the first week of captain practices and from reading a couple of the players tweets it seems some are having a little issue adjusting to the full cage. Im guessing this is a common occurance across college hockey, seeing almost all junior leagues in North America dont require players to wear the full cage.

According to the NCAA Hockey rules (HR-10), it is still being researched. We'll probably hear some more information towards the end of the season when the Rules committee gets in their smoke-filled room to determine what insane ideas to conjure up next (insane referring to that exhibition games rule about icing).

JL is there and speaks English quite well...or so I hear...;)

If what he learned on the ice in the BC league counts as French, then, YES! He's Fluent!

Speaking French matters little to me-I just want him to speak (clear out the crease with whatever force necessary). I will let 6'5" 250+ do all the speaking and translating for him.:D

Yes, but when you're telling the other player "Get the bleep away from our crease and stay away, you bleeper-bleeper," it sounds so much nicer when you say it in French. :)

Hopefully some of the uncommitted players on the team liked his coaching style and will be scheduling a visit to Troy in the near future.

From your keyboard to God's ears.

Coach Appert and Team USA defeated the Czech Rep. today 3-1, finishing the tournament in 5th place.

This probably belongs in the alumni thread but also involves recruiting, so I posted it here. Mark Jooris was appointed new head coach of the Markham Waxers (OJHL)

FWIW, RPI now has two players from Mark Jooris coached teams Pat Koudys with Burlington in 09-10 and Mark McGowan with Oakville last season.

I've blasted the T-U's college hockey coverage enough that I should probably point out that their feature story on Brock Higgs' neck injury took 3rd place in the New York Associated Press Awards for sports reporting (for papers between 50k and 125k circulation).

Of course, the writer isn't a full time sports writer, so that may have played a role...

I see our very own realet has been listed for one of his articles. Many congrats, but I am sure Tom will continue to work hard to give us quality writing, whether it be for mass print, a blog, or any other outlet.
