RPI Off-Season 2013 Part I: We Will Get Our Title Next Season

Re: RPI Off-Season 2013 Part I: We Will Get Our Title Next Season

I haven't been following this too closely but is there anything other than a rumor out there that SA is a candidate for the DU job? As a protoge of the departed coach, would they really want to go that route in replacing him? Just wondering.

Re: RPI Off-Season 2013 Part I: We Will Get Our Title Next Season

And you do not think they already know pretty much who they are going after? Color me suspicious but at this level, I really do not think any of this came as much as a surprise as the releases seem to indicate.
Well we know Gwoz had stated publicly as recently as a few weeks ago that he thought a contract extension was nearly done. Of course that could have been an attempt to leverage his position ...which of course backfired. Given the reaction of the DU faithful, this smells a lot more like a tense meeting that got out of hand and it ignited. In any event, who ever succeeds him will not have much of honeymoon. Part of me hopes that DU hits the skids, and loses a bunch of recruits -- just to stick it to hyphenated Asst. AD. We should be so lucky: all the guy did was win games, with annual trips to the NCAAs -- by all accounts a very clean and respected program...and for his efforts ?? he was shown the door. Bush league move, if you ask me.

I just listened to gwoz press conference. No names mentioned but you could tell that bust up did not go down in an amicable manner.

Re: RPI Off-Season 2013 Part I: We Will Get Our Title Next Season

OK folks let's start thinking positively here. As far as I'm concerned there is only one thing that is worth speculating about seriously right now. What about DU's incoming recruits? Can we poach some of them? I'm guessing that Gwoz would put a good word in for us.
Not that I think its likely we'd pursue or get any of them, here are DU's recruits:

Butcher, Moore, Hawkinson and Van Voorhis were officially announced in December 2012. DU only announced the players who have signed NLIs. Also Nick Neville, Ray Pigozzi, Connor Chatham, Landon Smith and Tyler Pham are supposed to be joining the team next season.

People in the "Gwoz Resigns" thread are saying the same thing, though how much of that is "informed speculation" and how much of that is "guesswork" is not clear.

I'll have to read that article posted above (or below depending on how you sort!) to see if he "resigned" or was fired.

Edit: ah, although initial word was that he "resigned" the article says "he was released from his contract." It also says that part of his problem was that he was so successful in attracting top-caliber recruits, the program suffered somewhat when they regularly left early to play in the NHL or its affiliates.

If I'm Shirley I would give our great coach an ext. and more $$$$. I dare not think it but if our great coach ("OGC") leaves were going to get a name like Ben Barr or Nolan Graham. Monty coming to RPI is a fantasy. He is either getting the Maine job or a pro asst or AHL job. Maybe they (Barr, Graham) would be decent but I don't think there going to bring in the guys OGC does. We need to pony up. Maybe the lure of DU is too much but let's not say we didn't try to keep him.

This is real entertaining stuff!!

The way this whole Denver thing went down would lead me to beleive that they will stay away from any Gwoz personnel past or present. Trust issues on both sides being the issue. I could be wrong but my money is on the next coach never having anything to do with the Denver program in the past.

I tend to agree. I listened to Gwoz's press conference and no love loss between him and the AD. DU took a step back.

This is the way I'm leaning on this also...but that doesn't mean Seth's people won't use it their advantage in the meantime...:D

I guess that I would need to watch the movie. :p

Usually when we put Youtube clips up, you don't need to watch the whole movie. The particular clip provides enough context. Embedding also helps, though. ;)

From the USofH article referenced above... I see one who would be a good fit hockey-wise:
"This is also bad, bad news for recruiting. A lot of players come to Denver because of Gwozdecky and his track record. The Pioneers are expecting a solid class next season led by defensive prospect Will Butcher, who would be the heir apparent to Joey LaLeggia as the team’s go-to offensive blueliner once the Edmonton Oilers pick moves on. Butcher is being heavily pursued by the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL. This kind of turnover isn’t helpful in that recruiting battle."

I hope Seth is already talking to Gwoz.

Re: RPI Off-Season 2013 Part I: We Will Get Our Title Next Season

If Seth doesn't go to Denver, and Gwoz doesn't get another job for this season (unlikely, I know) you think Gwoz would be willing to come aboard as a volunteer asst coach or consultant for a year?

Re: RPI Off-Season 2013 Part I: We Will Get Our Title Next Season

Besides the coaching skills, Gwoz also taught Our Great Coach the standing on the boards trick as seen in the start of the video. :)
