Re: RPI Off-Season 2013 Part I: We Will Get Our Title Next Season

I would like to thank AspyDad for his tireless effort in keeping Our Great Coach in Troy. Also thanks to Dr.D and Ralph Baer for the extra donation they gave to the hockey program. :)

Speaking of which-I must have received 30 calls recently from RPI asking for another donation this year-now I know why.

Re: RPI Off-Season 2013 Part I: We Will Get Our Title Next Season

"I'm excited as heck," Appert said about stay with the Engineers. "I appreciate the support (the school has) shown me through my career, in hard times in the early years and now as we've been contending."

RPI, coming off a second-place finish in the ECAC, is returning a team that should be able to contend for a title. That, plus the excitement surrounding the league's impending national champion team, makes staying with RPI attractive.

"It shows you can win anywhere," Appert said. "I believe that, I believed it when I got here. But now we have two teams playing for a national championship, and we finished in second place in that league. The way college hockey has shifted, you see our league's commitment to playing for championships."

Just heard the great news... will post something more later... :):):)

Re: RPI Off-Season 2013 Part I: We Will Get Our Title Next Season

There are a couple of new posts on the Denver thread stating that Montgomery will be their new coach.

Re: RPI Off-Season 2013 Part I: We Will Get Our Title Next Season

Congrats to Appert and RPI on the long term contract. I hope it works for both parties.

Re: RPI Off-Season 2013 Part I: We Will Get Our Title Next Season

New one for Ralph, via the Denver Post.

Former University of Denver assistant hockey coach Seth Appert has signed an eight-year extension with Ressealear to effectively take his name out of list of finalists to replace the fired George Gwozdecky, his mentor.

Definitely a new one. I can't recall the "n" being AWOL before. :)

I am still waiting for them to use the school as one of the words in the National Spelling Bee-"can you use it in a sentence, what is the definition, are there any alternate pronunciations? I think it would week out a fair number of participants.

Have been watching the 3rd... who'd have thoght QU would be down 3-0 this late in the 3rd? And they'd pull the goalie with 7+ minutes in the game? 4-0, Yale. (PS Columbia's 'Roar Lions, Roar' is a much better fight song than anything Harvard, Yale or Cornell has to offer. :D Now, if they only had a hockey team.)

So good to hear how this coaching roulette has worked out. Picking up on the Colonel's comment: OGC should have checked this opportunity out...he owed it to his family to look into this... and RPI offered him an extension. Win-win for everyone. (Compare the atmosphere Knowlton provides vs. what's offered by hyphenated leadership at Denver?)

There's a lot to be considered in maintaining some continuity with our coach right now. Who'd want to start over with a new coach, quite possibly a first-time coach?

OGC knows he's on the verge of something back at RPI. I feel really good for the coach and our players. And , oh yes, for our fans. ;) Can't wait for October!

It will be fun seeing Denver (and Monty) come to HFH...

Congrats, Yale! 0-2 Vs RPI!

I am stunned by the Yale/QU score-and we scored 10 on this Yale team in the 2 games. They played a perfect NCAA tournament-they just made almost no mistakes. Congrats to a very good team that barely made the tournament and made the most of their opportunity.

Good for RPI to step up and keep their great coach.

I know many DU alums would have loved to see him back in Denver. Have a lot of respect for Appert and RPI for doing the right thing.

Thanks. And after what I saw with RPI and Dubuque, you're in great hands with Monty.

Today is 14 April 2013. There are 174 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 5 October 2013 for the start of next season.

Nice result for the ECAC. The #1 and #3 regular season teams went to the finals. Makes me think #2 RPI could have done more.
