Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

*looks at ECAC awards* Oh, big surprise, look who got jipped again. Sure it probably wasn't PotW material, but seriously, not even a nomination........

Are you required to play an ECAC team that week to garner the possibility of an award? Perhaps the ECAC is too subtle and should just plainly flip the bird to #21?

Seriously... get off the "OMG the ECAC hates RPI" kick

And if you'd bother to actually read the POTW press release from the ECAC, the answer to your question about needing to play an ECAC team that week should become glaringly obvious

Actually, I figure Jerry D should have received it. They obviously count nonleague games since it is awarded before any league games are played, so why not international?

You're very correct about this one.

Maybe my goggles are a little TOO cherry.

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

Just caught the tail end of last night's USA-Sweden game again on replay, and had a chance to confirm that there were definitely some loud shouts of "RED!" during the national anthem after the game. :)

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

Unfortunately, no mention of RPI. I don't remember who on this board suggested this first, but I do think a major step in the NCAA winning the "NCAA vs. Major Junior" battles is to push for more emphasis on players' collegiate past (or, in this case, present). On NFL broadcasts, announcers will frequently refer to players' college careers, especially for younger pro players - why can't this happen more on NHL broadcasts too? This would give players the indication that, yes, NCAA play can lead to the pros or other opportunities such as the WJC.

Brian Burke was interviewed between periods and asked about D'Amigo.
All he said was the "he was a freshman at RPI" So we did get a mention, but he was not giving any accolades this early in Jerry's career. :(

I know the TSN announcers mentioned it once or twice, about it being an engineering school. Maybe a couple things beyond that.

Mike Emerick does an excellent job working players' colleges into his broadcasts...

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

Emrick has degrees from both Miami (Ohio) and Bowling Green, the latter a Ph.D, hence the nickname "doc". The man knows a lot about college hockey and is as nice a person as you will ever meet.

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

Yet another thread about JD'A on Hockey's Future http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=720303.

One scouting report from before the draft that I don't recall reading before:
I certainly didn't underrate him. His draft profile from the 2009 DobberHockey Prospects Report:

"Jerry D'Amigo, RW
Ht/Wt: 5'11, 196 lbs Born: 19/1/1991 (18)
2008-09 Team: USNTDP U18
2008-09 Statline: 53 GP, 23-33-56, 61 PIM

Scouting Report: You don't have to be a towering beast to be a power forward. Sure, you need more muscle and power than average, but being the fiercest player on the ice isn't determined by your size, but rather by your heart, your relentless will to mow down and over anyone in between you and the net. Jerry D'Amigo just keeps knocking over the obstacles- both on and off the ice. An explosive skater off the hop, D'Amigo's offensive prowess was hidden in the USNTDP program until he broke out at the World U18s in May. Any remaining questions about whether he could compete physically in the NHL were answered at the combine, where D'Amigo put on a show in the power and strength categories. Like Erik Cole in his draft year, D'Amigo can score goals, but he excels more at opening up room for and getting the puck to his linemates.

Notable Numbers: D'Amigo lead Team USA in scoring at the U18s with 13 points in just seven games.

Potential: Glue power winger, 25-35-60, 90 PIM
Years Away: 3"

Edit: I suppose that if one has to be mentioned in the same sentence as a Clarkson player, Cole isn't a bad choice. :)

Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

Absolutely-he used to mention RPI every time the Devils played a game against a team that had Oates or Juneau.

I get to listen to Emerick on almost all of the Devils games, and he always mentions what school a player came from.
Including Murley, Tapper and Pothier.
Late last season when talking about Pothier, he said that the school (which won a national championship as RPI) would like to be known as Rensselaer. I don't know where that came from.
