Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part II: Moving on with 2020 Vision!

Why would a school with only 2,000 students that often didn't fill their existing 2,200 seat rink when they had a top ten team want to build a 4,000 seat building in an era of declining student attendance throughout college athletics?0

They use Union labor. ;)

Yes... especially one in particular who drove some away and then seems to have taken his ball and gone home. I did catch him commenting on the RPITV link once this year. In honor of the recently passed Neil Peart... Plus ca change, plus ce la meme chose. Don't kill me on the spelling - I can only do Spanish and German!

I'm heading to the game tomorrow night for sure and think I will try to get to the John Harvard brew pub before. Anyone else have something similar in mind?

I'm considering heading up for what is arguably our biggest game in years.

Assuming that you are talking about Flaggie, he was kicked off by the site admins for comments on political threads. He did not leave on his own. He posts a lot on the YouTube RPI-TV threads.
Yup. Barred! Wow. Considering how poorly he acted on game threads I can only imagine what his political arguments would be like. Hyperbipolarism... is that a real thing Dr. Demento?

A little late with this but congrats to the ACHA Team. If you get the chance ( next year I guess) go see some of their games. It is very good hockey. Primo seats always available too :D <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">2019-20 SECHL Champions 🏆<br>First time in school history<br>Game winner pictured <a href="https://t.co/CyfaAZ5ElE">pic.twitter.com/CyfaAZ5ElE</a></p>— RPI ACHA Hockey (@rpiacha) <a href="https://twitter.com/rpiacha/status/1232025574102708226?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 24, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

I don't think it will be just the school. I think the city of Schenectady and Rivers will be involved.

I worked for GE and lived in Schenectady in the early 80's; I have a certain fondness for Schenectady and know it's gone through a lot of pain with GE's much-reduced profile over the years.

Having said that, I would tap the breaks on a Union/City/Rivers joint project. The Rivers Casino has not been the cash flow champion Schenectady and the County were counting on. Even if money were no object, I'm not sure a 4,000 seat multipurpose venue makes the average Schenectadian's top 10 (or top 20) list of things to accomplish.

Certainly looks like there's enough undeveloped area on the peninsula at the river side of the harbor to fit it, and the planned living stuff looks to be on the Erie Blvd side, so no shortage of townies or places to pregame.

In case anyone has forgotten, the Harvard game starts at 7:30.

John Harvard's Harvard Square location closed in 2019.

Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part II: Moving on with 2020 Vision!

Anyone want to comment as to which of these titles they prefer? Additional suggestions are also fine.
Although I like the first one, I am concerned that it could jinx the team. Actually Coach Smith will probably go to LP whether or not we go. The second one implies that the team would go to LP, but it is not written as a certainty.

RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part III: Mr. Smith Goes to Lake Placid

As I was writing the previous post, it dawned on me that Coach Smith has a good chance of winning ECAC CotY which would be the first time that an RPI coach has won. It has been won by a coach for all of the other teams in the past.

RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part III: Looking to be Playing Past the Ides of March

That was indeed the implication of the second title. To be playing past the 15th of March would mean a trip to lake Placid for the first time is so long that I cannot remember (but we were there!!) None of us and i am sure this team, is tired of hearing Wait Until Next Year (which I hear so many times as a Brooklyn Dodger fan before 1955).

I do know Dan Fridgen was the coach, we lost the semi to Cornell 3-0 and beat Clarkson in the consolation game. We have played past the Ides twice since then but not in a final four of the ECAC (Shut out against North Dakota in theNCAA and I believe we had one second round series in the ECAC go past the 15th but we lost)
