Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020: Nordic Combined

I've been pretty busy over the last several weeks and have not had the chance to see the team play in person. I look forward to seeing a few games at HFH after Christmas.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah everyone!

Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020: Nordic Combined

While anything is possible, I don't think that we have the offensive talent to bring about that result. I do think that we have the defensive talent, but we have been very inconsistent at that part of our game.
I really hope you are right, and I will be rooting for an even better outcome, but I have my doubts.

Unless something changes, I don't see any reason for optimism. Their wins are against equal or lesser talent. To achieve the results others have suggested may be possible, they have to be able to take a couple games against top tier teams. And that will mean putting an entire 60 minute game together, offensively and defensively,or stealing one with a stellar goaltender performance. I just don't see it as I don't get a sense this team is starting to put it together, that they are building on a solid foundation. They simply have to play for 3600 seconds like they did for the last 40 seconds against Brown.

I was curious when I saw this yesterday as to why Dubi was in the picture. Turns out his brother Josh (center in picture) is an AC with Ridley. I had the chance to talk with Josh at today’s games.

I had wondered also, but didn't bother trying to figure out why. Thanks. It's too bad that Zach doesn't have his brother's size, although we probably wouldn't have gotten him then.

Edit: OTOH, Josh didn't play past the midget level.

I checked this year's freshmen on Neutral Zone for which symbols appeared with each. Only two (one being the injured Helsen) have the symbols. They are the following.

Helsen: St, Aw, Vi, To
Klee: Aw, To

Meanings: Aw=Awareness/IQ, Ch= Character/Leadership, GS=Goal Scoring Ability, Sk=Skating, Sp=Speed, SH=Stick Handling Skill, St-Strength, To=Toughness, Vi=Vision/Passing

I don't think that anything should be taken from who is mentioned since some 4.5 and higher players have no symbols. The symbols are public.

For comparisons, our recruits:
Brown St Sk To GS
Davies St Aw Vi
Itagaki Sp SH Aw Sk
Leibold Sp SH
McIsaac Sp To
Sertti SH Aw Vi Sk

Once again, we come up short on GS.
We will not be a top team without goal scorers, no matter who the coach is.

True, but there are relatively few who get that symbol. We are missing completely on character/leadership. I think we had more leadership players under SA. I won't mention names to not irritate turk181, but we did lose two with the leadership symbol, one who also had the goal scoring symbol.

Ahh... the boy scout badge method of rating players! Give me the kids with Aw, Vi and Sk and the GS will come. Ch sounds like a consolation prize - I'll bet most kids tend to fall on the have it side vs. don't have it. Honestly if there was the opposite rating for someone with poor Ch then that would be a more meaningful screen.

Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020: Nordic Combined

does anyone really know? laliberte was suppose to be the next pirri damigo he was terrible. lets focus on whos here now and not recruits. the thing with scoring by committee is no go to player like when we had hags and chase :(

I like the descrption as "Boy Scout badge". ")
Goal scoring hasn't been coming at a particularly fast rate recently. Another thing is that there are players who have 6 or more badges including a couple of players who were once on our list.

to characterize Jacob as terrible is a bit disappointing bringing Jacob in created alot of excitement and anticipation to the program and I guess his career is a matter of opinion it should be noted we won a recruiting war on several levels to get Lally when was the last time that happened this program has no buzz. In my opinion JL was a great engineer.

I wouldn't say he was terrible, just not as good as Pirri and D'Amigo. IMHO, it's hard to call him "the next ..." because he was recruited prior to the other two.

Not to mention that during his career at RPI he scored more points for us than the both Pirri and D'Amigo combined (I know, he was here for 4 years and each of them for only 1). But if you wanted see how much value some one added to the program it is as good as any other stat. I'd love as many players as we could add right now that would give us an average over 22 points per season.
