RPI Hockey 2016 - 2017 (Part II): In Memory of Ed Weaver

Re: RPI Hockey 2016 - 2017 (Part II): In Memory of Ed Weaver

The Ireland games are not exempt because we are playing NCAA competition, similar to when we played UVM in Quebec. This is not the same as an "international tour", where once every four years, you can play exhibition competitions abroad.

ETA: There are special events that are specifically called out in the D-I bylaws that are exempt despite involving NCAA competition (Icebreaker, the HoF game we played this year, lower 48 playing an Alaska team in Alaska [at least for the lower 48 team], etc.), however playing a NCAA contest abroad is not.

So confirmed for next year are:
22 ECAC games
2 @ Ohio State
1 @ Niagara and RIT
2 in Ireland - Clarkson as a non-league game
1 @ TUC against Union
2 Home vs Maine
2 Home vs Notre Dame (Assume it is 2 for now)

Only leaves 2 left.

Re: RPI Hockey 2016 - 2017 (Part II): In Memory of Ed Weaver

KRACH gives us a *drum roll...* 0% chance to win the Whitelaw! It's okay, we do have an 8% chance to beat Clarkson and a 0.1% shot at making Lake Placid. If we should advance, we have a 96% chance to play Harvard, so that'll be a fun repeat of last year.

I'm going to let my other thread die since it went largely ignored all season.

Not sure CCT is non-league. In previous years, both leagues have mandated that the first Ireland game is a league game. If RPI/CCT want a non-league game, they will have to play a third time. Rumored by Watertown Daily Times, but not confirmed. Anywhere from 2-4 remain.

not surprised byTironese suspension . Really a stupid, bush league, awful move. Hope the coglate player is ok .Hate to say it but not unusual for apperts players. so disappointed in many ways in this program.

Let's focus on the rest of this season for now

but everyone makes the Dean's List!

This program is taking on the persona of perennially losing & undisciplined behavior on (and off) the ice. Never expected either would be tolerated at RPI.

It happens at the end of the game, in which we won, what our 8th of the season? One would think after a win, and there haven't been many, the appropriate response to an opponent is " Look at the scoreboard!"

But his thought is to spear an opponent, after a win. Kids did that when I played Pee-Wee hockey.

The play was in front of our net, one goal lead at about 59:55. Obviously you want to keep the puck out of the net and he probably thought that's where the puck was, but spearing the guy when he was down while the puck was being unintentionally "cleared" by their own players (given icing was waived) isn't the way to go at it.

When I first read this, I thought that the ECAC had to look for a new member. ;)

Re: RPI Hockey 2016 - 2017 (Part II): In Memory of Ed Weaver

I always read it. Since lugnut appears to have cleared up the problems which were there a few years ago, there was nothing to say. :)

And yet the top spot in the ECAC came down to a tiebreaker I don't really simulate. It may be time to finally fully implement the ECAC tiebreak table instead of being lazy and only doing H2H and league wins.

Re: RPI Hockey 2016 - 2017 (Part II): In Memory of Ed Weaver

We cannot end the season with 30 losses. We are, barring a miracle not even Herb Brooks could pull, going to tie or beat the record for most number of losses in a season (27) this year.

I have to laugh at these responses regarding this play. Were you there in attendance? Have you rewatched the play to see exactly what happened? Before Tironese even swung his stick backwards, this same Colgate player crossed checked Tironese across the back not once but 2x's and his cross checking was more an intent to injure then the motion Tironese made with his stick. Next, when Tironese swings his stick backwards, the Colgate player was standing upright. He wasn't laying on the ice, and lastly, when Tironese swings his stick backwards his looking up ice towards the Colgate zone. He's not facing the player when he swings his stick. The way the game had disintegrated in the final 10 mins that penalty never should have been called. The only reason why there is a suspension is because the penalty was called after the game expired Had it occurred prior to this the suspension wouldn't have been handed down.
