I understand where you are coming from. We fans tend to watch our teams through rose colored glasses. But a check of the scoreboard with three minutes remaining shows the truth. Your goalie also played very well, but up to that point, he was behind 2-0.
I commend Yale for their 60 minute effort. They did not give up and it paid off for them.
As I personally have a connection to Yale, I have no allegiance to their hockey team. But I wish them well the rest of the way.[/QUOT

What I saw of the game ( fantastic streaming broadcast) looked pretty even though a 38-21 shot margin for Yale would give them the statistical advantage. RPI always plays Yale tough at home.

We should not forget what made this such a horrible loss.
We outplayed a ranked team for 57 minutes. We played a great third period for 17 minutes.
And it took a fluke goal to tie the game.
We have a pretty young team on the ice right now, and the kids are playing well.
If we can continue to play the way we did for 57 minutes and just extend that for 3 more, we will win a lot of games in the ECAC.
It is still a very young season.
It took me two days to get over that loss, but I can now see the improvement this team is making from one weekend to the next.
Lets go red!!!!!!!!!
It will take me a while longer. :(

I will admit that I am biased but IIRC that shot advantage was mainly built up in the first period when we seemed to be killing penalties constantly. The game was pretty even otherwise. It's no excuse but RPI also has its usual extensive injury list.

Perhaps they should stop jumping rope on the ice.

Just weighing in, Perry played a great game for the most part, but the game-tying goal was the third or fourth puck that squirted through his pads and/or five hole. Luckily, most of them went wide or were cleared out, but that one happened to go in.

Coming into the weekend, if you'd told me we would beat Brown and lose to Yale, I would have told you that was a perfectly reasonable outcome. The way it ended up playing out was painful, but I can't say the end result was in any way unexpected. We just have to be able to move on and try to pick up all four against the North Country teams this weekend.

Saturday was surely a disappointing loss. This team is much better than its record shows. Team is still looking tired in the 3rd period. Need to find a way to generate more 5 on 5 goals and to stop taking dumb penalties.

Kudos to Seth for reaching out for ways to get our players' heads right again after 2 weekends of heart-breaking OT losses.

Coach Appert is bringing in O. J. Simpson as a motivational speaker?

This is a great rivalry weekend coming up in Troy, with the North Country hockey teams coming in to renew long-standing hostilities and Union's football team coming for the Dutchman's Shoes game.

There have been many RPI alumni (and I am one of them) who went through four years without ever seeing our team win the Shoes.

Man, I hope the Class of 2017 will be Union's first class to go Shoesless.

Re: RPI Hockey 2016 - 2017: Here we go again! I hope it's a fun ride.

Just got thru watching the RPI Clarkson game.
WOW, I have never seen as many empty seats in the Fieldhouse for an RPI Clarkson game.
I have to ask the question, Is RPI that bad?? If not for Perry (Your good Perry, not our bad Perry) Clarkson probably would have been in double digits. This is the first game all year of Clarkson's that I have watched that they dominated their opponent for 3 periods.

Coach Appert is bringing in O. J. Simpson as a motivational speaker?

Not sure OJ could even motivate the team I saw on the ice toknight.

Re: RPI Hockey 2016 - 2017: Here we go again! I hope it's a fun ride.

Quick thoughts on last night: Credit to CCT they are skilled and have a lot of size. They put together a solid 3 period win.

Several goals allowed were on 2nd and 3rd chance put backs. The 2nd period was like watching JV vs Varsity scrimmage. No pride in front of our own net - leaving Perry to fend for himself. As someone wise once said, defense is 75% effort and attitude. I didn't see nearly enough of either last night. Until that changes and we clean up lazy turnovers by all too familiar individuals we aren't gonna win many tilts.

I do not know this man but based on how we came out to play last night my first thought is Brian may not be worth the money.

It may not be hockey related, but congrats to the football team on retaining the Dutchmen's Shoes for the fourth straight year.
At least we kept the shoes (might not be a bad thread title for Part II)...

This is the worst skilled team I have seen in years
Pp sucks, zone play sucks, coaching sucks

I think there's more skill there than the record indicates. This team is more competitive than numbers alone show. If you're looking for reasons why 2-8-1, lack of consistency is one thing that jumps out. I'll see one or two good shifts followed by 3-4 not good ones; strong play and good puck control for 10 minutes in a period followed by a mental letdown, mistakes, a bad penalty or two, and backing off the intensity. I also think there are some very predictable aspects of this team's play that opponents have either scouted or quickly figured out - passing lanes, structure of the PP, etc.

It also seems like we've been saying all of these same things for years now. In the postgame Appert was really happy with the game - called it best game they've played all year, fun game to coach, improvement will come with time. I hope he's right, and soon. Lot of empty seats at HFH last night.
