When I was at RPI (many years ago), we used to play Tier II Junior or Jr. B teams in the preseason. Is that still allowed? That helped with the recruiting too. They were easy wins, but that isn't the point. IIRC, we usually had two such games, one being for the benefit of the Campus Chest (the RPI charity if it has disappeared) and the other for APO.

The "Campus Chest" was the nickname that one of my friends had for a girl in his class. :D

Former SLU commit Bailey Conger has now committed to RPI. Gotta admit, we were pretty excited to get him, not sure I'm looking forward to seeing him with a league foe.

What a gong show last night. I put this together to help visualize how much, or rather how little, of the game was played at 5x5:

Ridiculous.

That's quite informative, lugnut.
Yes, thank you. It was to say the least FRUSTRATING. This is the game you want to see what line combos are working, along with D pairings. Impossible to do with 30 penalties called. It was that way across the map. Can’t be a coincidence. I have to believe zebras were told before the weekend to blow.

The constant stream of penalties also completely sucked the energy out of the rink. The crowd wasn't particularly big (thanks for putting the game at 4 on a Sunday, in the middle of the last MLB games of the regular season), but there were times in the second and third where the rink was just silent.

Just a hunch, but I think the NFL schedule might've had something more to do with it than MLB did.

Without a doubt, and to a lesser extent, the final day of the Ryder Cup. Of course, that's what DVR's are for.
A question for anyone who was at Sunday's game. Why are the students still chanting "DP Dough" even though Moe's sponsors the goal in the final minute of the second period for the last 2 years? Don't they like Mexican?

I think you’re both partially right. I’m not even sure if I got out of my seat on our 2nd goal it was that boring (the game). NFL ratings have been miserable so far this year. I used to be a fan but the NFL long ago lost me, Penalty, injury, commercial, oooh a play, wait penalty, idiot dancing for making a tackle, commercial, TD, review, commercial, XP, commercial.......

They were also doing it last year. It's three syllables. Makes for a good chant. Sure, they could chant "We Want Moe's", but "DP Dough" is a bit catchier evidently.

I might have been projecting because I was frustrated with having to miss my Cards fruitlessly whip the Pirates while the Dodgers chose to lie down for the Giants. I guess they figured they couldn't beat us in the playoffs, so they'd have to prevent us from getting in.

For a while, there were definitely chants of "D.P. Moe's".

My theory is that it started with DP Dough and since that chant became so ingrained, nothing could replace it. You'll notice that most students on campus still refer to the pizza place at College and 14th as Pizza Bella, despite it changing names before I was even a student. Some traditions die hard.

I don't disagree. My point was that if you compare RS MLB TV ratings to NFL TV ratings it ain't even close

It changed from Pizza Bella to whatever it is now when I was there. Although I do recall those a few years older than me knowing it by another name...

When the pep band begins playing songs that were released more recent than 2003, maybe the students will update their chants as well. Because, tradition, right?

1) I think that it's some of that RPI-style ironic humor to keep chanting DP Dough even though it's actually Moe's now... it's just funnier that way.
2) I think it's great because it memoralizes the amazing playoff(?) series a few years ago where we scored on 3 back-to-back DP Dough minutes of the game, after which DP Dough went out of business. Related? Probably not, but I'd love to think we bankrupted them from free calzones!
3) All lists should have at least three items.

I personally added "Teenage Dream" to the set, and recent years have seen the addition of, among others, "Hey Brother", "Everytime We Touch", and "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)". So we're not that far behind in musical taste.

And don't forget everyone's favorite referee warmup tune, "******* You"!

At some point it does become fairly lame.

Remind me when it gets as lame as Cornell fans' chant of "Screw BU, [other school] too!" :)

That has been lame since BU left the ECAC back in 1985.
