Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

BTW, just going off the boxscore it looked like a very nice season debut for Rodriguez (Chi Chi is his nickname btw not A-ROD), +2 and 3 SOG.

Chi Chi it is then. But I don't want him working on his golf until mid-April... after hockey season.

Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

Rodrguez impressed me too. Great Stache for Movember, showed great speed and also checked a Bentley player through the door right next to me in the 2nd period. He also may have deserved an assist on that Praps goal. Thought the play started with him shooting it from the right side and a rebound popping out to Praps who put it by the goalie. Perhaps a Bentley player took a swipe at it on the way to Praps but the puck was essentially in RPI control the whole time.

Decent game. We controlled for 2 periods and took the foot off the gas a bit. 11 forwards may have something to do with that.

Bentley needs a rink. That game had all the feel of a peewee game at a town rink. Just within local Boston youth hockey leagues there are a number of other rinks that are so much nicer.

I agree with everything that you said. I sat in the Bentley student section in the first period and they said that they are in the process of building a new rink on campus.
They certainly need it.

Just saw your comment on the game thread about the rink being undersized. I'm guessing it was 185' long instead of 200'. They appear to have taken the 15' mainly away from the neutral zone. Red to blue line looked to be maybe 20' (if that). And the other 5 from the blue lines to the faceoff dots. I thought the RPI D were backing off the blue line very early all game - and am guessing it was because of the short neutral zone.

There was another feature of the rink that I found interesting ... the Zamboni door. It was a singe piece with an overhead lift system - almost like a guillotine. Looked cool but you really need to make sure the ice underneath isn't getting built up or else you end up with one section of dasher a little higher than the rest of the rink. I noticed in the 3rd that the door was sitting up a little, probably not more than 1/4", but more than enough to create some weird bounces if the puck came along the dasher.

For the football fans, WRPI will have the game against Buffalo St today at 5 from Central CT State.

i am not positive but I think there may be a video stream on ECACSPORTS.TV of the game. Wish the boys luck. We have a very nice record in these Championship games but I truly would have liked them to be in the NCAA tourney this year after missing by losing to SLU by only 3 points. of course they would have drawn Mount Union and might have needed a calculator to keep track of the points scored against.

Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

For the football fans. RPI fell behind 13-3 in the first half. They were by far the better team but shot themselves in the foot too often to count. Penalties, fumbles, interception, bad snaps all in the red zone and they could have been well in front. The second half was all RPI and they outscored their opponent 17-0 to win 20-13. They still took far too many penalties and fumbled but they just shut down Buffalo State who could do nothing. Total yardage for the game was incredibly one sided as RPI more than doubled them. Big congrats to the RPI who end the season 9-2 and with one of the very best records we have had.
In the meantime, Mount Union was kind to SLU after leading 55-7 early in the third period decided to sit on the lead and take their entire offense off the field. We most certainly are not in the league of the powerhouse Division III football schools at this time but we could have been ranked as a top 25 team with the season we just finished. Unfortunately, in Division III football, the top 10+ are just so far above anyone else that the games are not even competitive.
Now let's have our boys handle UNH on Tuesday at HFH and go out to Indiana and have a great tournament!!!

As you can tell, i watched the entire game in HD and the broadcast was not just clear but the commentary was pretty good.

Current PWR http://www.uscho.com/rankings/pairwise-rankings/d-i-men/
Now it is really great to see us ranked as #16 which has not happened in some time. But a tad disconcerting to notice we are only the seventh highest ranked team in the ECAC:eek: I guess this is eastern bias?
Oh-we are 3-1-1 against the teams ranked above us.

Denver and we would be replaced by WCHA and AHA auto-qualifiers. :( ;)

I'm shocked by this, considering our losses to Alaska, and who they lost to. Of course, it's still very early, and things will be less volatile in a few weeks.

Going into the season, given our NC schedule, I knew there was a very distinct possibility we would start the season 0-5, and by extension, have pretty much no shot at the tournament except by auto-bid. We may be doing well now, but I am still a bit worried about Shillelagh and Miami having a large impact. Arizona State we might be able to pick up a little more ground, although the PWR's transitive property assumption (i.e. Common Opponents ranking) would suggest no. As mentioned before though, give it a few weeks to become less volatile, and we'll see where we go.

I checked the Jack A Ryan rink web site, and they claim that the rink is 200by85. I don't believe it.

I had looked at that before I even posted. I didn't believe it either!

If it is somehow regulation then they've got a very odd layout of the zones. Proportions just didn't seem right - the space behind the nets looked bigger than a typical rink. I thought it was an illusion because of what looked like short blue line to net dims. Maybe they just have a really odd rink shape (more oval than most)? If my son has a game there one day I'll be tempted to bring along a tape measure.

Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

RPI is 15 now, so us and Clarkson would be out.
The season is of course too early to use any of this for judging much. Here we are tied for first with arguably perhaps the best team in the country in the toughest league. Yet PWR has us sitting behind 5-6 teams in our own league (and we have not lost to a single one of them). I am OK with that but when the USCHO poll comes out tomorrow and we are given the same 21 points we got last week and do not break into the top 20 you really feel the lack of respect (or the lack of actually watching and reading about the games that have been decided). I believe a good percentage of the voters see RPI with a 6-4-2 record (and only see those 4 losses). Winds over BC, Yale, SLU seem to mean very little when you still have 4 losses in your record.

We're KRACH-ranked 6th in the league. It's all because we lost to the Alaska teams.

Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

Gotta say that our well coifed and ever affable Coach did an awesome job of going out and getting Hackett after the Dillon defection. Imagine where we be w/out that young man!!!

Re: RPI Hockey 2015 - 2016:: Six Flags Over the HFH

Btw- I am expecting RPI on Schottsie ballot this week for USCHO, since he can't with all conscience vote for his hometown team.
