If anything, blocking shots is a very good thing. Sure, you'd like to be able to close down lanes and force your opponent into a situation where they have to make the pass instead of shooting. Short of that, blocking the shot is the next best thing, especially if your opponent is "trigger happy" like both of our opponents seemed to be. The puck's not getting near either the goal or "the house" (used in a RPI-TV cast a while back, describes prime shooting areas in front of the goal), and depending on how you block, may provide an opportunity for a zone clear or a counter-attack. Even better, if you're blocking a lot of shots, or your keeper is a brick wall, that's going to frustrate your opposition into desperation attempts, as they'll begin to believe that their process for shooting and scoring just isn't working. That's what we started seeing from BC in the third period, even though they were able to get one through, the last few minutes saw failed desperation attempts.
