A few years ago I did find us a fairly good player. But he chose BC instead after leaving Gloucester Catholic High School. We never really had a shot at him but he did rather well at BC and I think now with the Calgary Flames.

Agreed but it is a little more than that. We played pretty even against a team that is really very good and showed it up in Canton against us earlier. We showed that on a given night we can play with some of the better teams. What was most exciting was just that these boys deserved to win their final game on home ice for the year. This was one heck of an exciting game with all sorts of action. We scored on a breakaway and a penalty shot and Scotty stoned SLU on a complete breakaway of their own. This is the kind of game that you go home after and just feel great.

Turk-That was my concern with DM. Always knew he could fly, always knew he could find the open man, and always knew he used his head out there and made smart plays. My fear was that he lacked the strength and size to fight for the puck against the boards and that he could easily be pushed off the puck by the bigger NCAA defensemen. I have no clue what they have been feeding him or how much time he has spent in the weight room, but he has gained some size, some muscle and a lot more strength with the puck that we saw at Delbarton.

His two years in the USHL appear to have helped him a lot. I had also been concerned about his strength, but it doesn't appear to have been a problem.

The team played to win sat and it was a fun game for fan and players alike. Sweet final home game for Diebold. I would come right back with him friday if I were coach.

Diebold's too inconsistent; I would stick with Kasdorf. Although, if Diebold can put up a good fight in practice, there's a chance...

I would not hesitate to alternate them every few minutes if need be. Both have shown they can be game winners. But both also have shown serious lapses of concentration and allowing soft goals. Truthfully, if our skaters play like they can, who is in goal may be less important. Limit the shots against by winning faceoffs in your own zone and the game becomes infinitely simpler. They are now playing a series for all the marbles (to move on) and just came off a 3 point weekend at home with as exciting a win over SLU as possible. I do not want to hear anything about a letdown, or need for motivation, or not playing the right way. This team should just go out there and get those 3-2 leads that they did this past week and then keep the pedal to the metal in the third period.
(Of course this supposes that the officials do not see fit to make their usual twice as many calls against us as they do against our opponents).

Alternating every few minutes in most cases is a horrible idea. As I'm sure many can attest, one important thing in any game, where sport, e-sport, board, card, whatever, is rhythm, as that sort of flow can help you in the game. The trick with any rhythm, of course, is to make sure you are always in control. Sometimes, the rhythm can carry you, making the transitioning of strategies all the more difficult. I would not completely sacrifice rhythm for the sake of trying to outwit the opponent. That being said, if we were to win game 1, it'd be a very interesting dynamic to pepper their goalie with shots, and after our goalie gets a couple shots on him, go up and get an offsides (obviously try not to make it intentional, and then swap the goaltender at the stoppage. Yes, it takes the mini-game scenario I recall Ralph (or someone else) mentioning to a whole new level, understanding it's a full game 3, but it may work against a team with what would seem to be a hot goaltender.

You are right, my bad; I remembered the "indicator" incorrectly: it indeed was based on our defense, not our offense.

I may have been premature in defaming the band. Managers are looking into making a shorter trip up for Saturday (and maybe Sunday).

What?? The main reason we won Saturday night was because of Scotty. It was as good a goalie performance we've seen in quite some time. The kid gave us hope. He was unbelievable. Nothing against Kazzy, but I'm with jstadts, I don't know how you wouldn't start him this weekend. If this team is going to do anything this post-season we need a hot goalie and we all know it. I understand 1 game doesn't make a "hot" goalie, but what have we got to lose? If he plays like he did on Saturday night, we play with the intensity we did on Saturday and we stop taking stupid penalties, this team can get through the first round.

As long as I'm posting for the first time in about 2 years, I would sit Wood & Devito. They aren't getting the message on staying out of the box. I was beside myself when Devito was in the lineup Saturday night after his brainless (and dangerous) knee-to-knee hit on the Clarkson player. Give me Gillespie and Fulton in their place. Gillespie is a better matchup with Clarkson's size anyway.

Diebold is like a box of chocolates; sometimes he's on, sometimes he's off, and in both cases, it seems to be the extreme end. I'm thinking back to the 11-12 season, when he started vs. Colgate and made 49 saves. I had the same thought as you when Merriam started the subsequent Cornell game, which we ended up winning 2-1 in OT. Then I remembered some of Diebold's other games, like UML in the UCONN tournament, or his relief effort during Freakout. Don't get me wrong, he's a good goaltender. I think I'd be a little more comfortable with Kasdorf, although giving Diebold at least a few periods, especially if we go three games and/or free hockey, wouldn't be a bad idea.

If, if, if, and...if. Practice this week could indeed be intense and competitive for those guys you mentioned. As far as the goalie postion goes,MAYBE if Diebold was great all week he would get the start. Appert has said all along that this team will go as far as kasdorf can take it. Also, he is the guy next year and you don't want him to go into the off-season with the feeling that the coach doesn't have confidence in him.

As for Wood and Devito, I would tend to agree. Wood has had many chances and still continues to take bad penalties. He also is contributing less so I would thank him for his service and let him be a practice player, but every other healthy body would play before him. IMO Devito has been much better and has spent much less time in the box. Though he is 5th on the team in penalty minutes, he has spent half as much time in the box as Wood while playing 5 more games. Fulton may still be injured, but I agree that Gillespie should play this weekend. I think he will end up having a much better career than Wood.
