Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Doc, is owning any/most of NJ a thing to brag on? :D

next year, maybe I'll come down and join the party...

Not a big NJ fan myself but it still one of the states with an extremely wealthy population and expensive property values. If you have never been to Baker Rink, please make the trip. It is a wonderful place to watch a game and when RPI is in town to play, you will be among a great group of fans. One bit of advice though, order tickets the day they are available. The RPI game is one of usually 2 or 3 that sell out.

New Jersey is good for one thing: cheap gas.

HBR was certainly a nice place to watch a game, and the historical cases around the rink were incredibly educational and interesting. Perhaps I will take FlagDUDETTE at some point, but the 4PM starts are usually more convenient, as I'm able to get home at a halfway reasonable hour.

Jen and i love the 4PM starts. Gives us time to get there in daylight, making sure all the cats are well cared for, see the game, leave leisurely and go out for a great dinner(when we win) or go out for a great dinner(if we lose) but not enjoy it quite as much. We are about an hour away from the rinik and even that is a challenge late at night if the weather is poor. NJ drivers are in a class by themselves.

I've been there a few times in the past. When I used to go there, we used to be able to sit upstairs behind the goal. I have a few memories of HBR. One was sneaking into the rink, coming in with the RPI band. Another was being hit in the chest with a puck during warm ups causing a huge black and blue mark on me which didn't go away for days. I just remember that RPI won every time that I watched in person.

Unfortunately I would have to then deal with PA drivers. They did increase the speed limit on 380 to make it a little more bearable, but considering it's still a 4 hour trip, getting back at 1AM isn't really that fun anymore.

Jen and I have been going since 1975(in those days we played down here every other year only). I had been going several years before that. We had a streak much as yours back then almost never seeing a loss. That has changed quite a bit-Princeton had some very formidable teams in the 90's and mid to late 2000's. In the early years, and perhaps even now, their was a considerable home ice advantage as often teams traveled down by bus and hardly had time to warm up(especially with the temperature in the rink so cold you needed to wear fur). Also, they had the opponents come out from the end of the rink and walk across concrete with their skates on, which dulled many an edge.
Before the installation of the netting-sitting up in the balcony was a sure way to risk a visit to the ER. But it is a superb place to sit and watch the entire ice.

Understood-we often had to drive back down from Troy after a game when I was on emergency call(and could not stay over in the old Holiday Inn) and some games started at 7:30 and OT could last 10 minutes(or much longer in the Annual Tournament). We often hit the Garden State Parkway around 2 AM and even at that hour it is like driving in the Indianapolis 500. From 1975-2002 we rarely missed a game but we did have 2 semi severe accidents both on 787 in horrible weather. Now, we will only come up if we can stay over.

Kevin Shier has left the Dutchmen. This is Bennett's response: “Yesterday,” Bennett, sounding angry, said when asked of his meeting with Shier. “He told me yesterday. Back on the streets of Ontario and you can put that in there (the story).”

When pressed for more, Bennett continued, "You better stop asking me questions about it before I knock you out, just like I did to Kevin.":D

Edit: Here's what Union's internet tough guy, Dutchman, put on my rep: Hey Jericho ..... You are a ****ing ******* !!!!!"

Before the installation of the netting, I used to wonder whether Princeton had to offer hazardous duty pay to get people to work in the concession stand at that end of the ice.

Is the story online? I personally don't think that his leaving will be too important to Union. I was very unimpressed with him while watching the Royal Bank Tourney online last year (same team as Prapavessis and future Engineer Jacob Hayhurst). Then again, he was apparently quite good in the league playoffs, and he did rescue a guy from a burning car on the way to Schenectady.

Bennett is a goon

FlagDUDE08, as much as I rag on you, as least you are an RPI fan (though sometimes that is in question.) Yes, I admit, sometimes you do have valid points, just stop being so negative. This guy is a worse poster than you.

Just so everyone knows: after this post, it's enough of being nice to Flaggy.

Were you hacked? :p:D

I am one who believes in reality, the execution of concepts, and equal treatment of all people with whom I consort. The reality of the situation is what it is. Do I want to see the best for RPI? Absolutely. As I've mentioned many a time, if I didn't consider myself to be a fan of RPI, I would probably be more concerned about the college teams in my community: Colgate men and Syracuse women. Last I checked, I'm not there, so questioning me being an RPI fan can go right out the door. If your concern is regarding PtC, I will only "hope for the shutout" when it is evident that RPI has no chance of winning the game. If it's 1-0 or an early-in-the-third 2-0, rooting for the shutout is just dumb, as RPI still has a shot at a win or a tie.

One other thing: I rarely hold grudges against anyone. Every day is a new day. Do I speak my mind? Absolutely. When something you do or say is something that is worth defending, I will defend it with the same intensity that I lambast something that is worth lambasting. Whether or not you read what I write has always been the choice of every person that reads this forum, and it is also their individual choice.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Isn't it nice when we can all just get along? I'm sure the fact that we're no longer running a month-and-a-half-long losing streak has helped everyone's mood, and having someone else to hate (be they Dutchman or Hoky or whoever) helps to redirect the ill will. Hopefully we can put a few more in the W column and everyone will love each other again.

Wasn't the old story that the way to get the 1980 US Olympic team to get along was to pit all of the players vs. Herb Brooks? ;)
