Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Today is Saturday, January 10, 2015.

It has been 46 days since RPI's last victory.

(No more excuses, beat Princeton tonight!)

Q? How are they calling crease violations these days? On Quinnipiac's second goal last night the screener clearly had both feet in the crease. The last time I saw the rule that was OK as long as he didn't physically or visually interfere with the goalie. I didn't see any contact and I wasn't in position to conclusively observe his impact on Kasdorf's line of sight, but he was trying to set screens and Kasdorf seemed slow to react to the slap shot from the point. I didn't see anyone on our side complain so I guess it was OK, but it seemed odd for him to be so clearly in the blue and no one even tried to make a case for a crease violation.

One goal. That makes the final score 3-2. Still doesn't matter. I will give you that I saw some crease tomfoolery on the video as well, but that does not excuse our billions of icings and just poor offensive play in general.

Thanks, but I know how to do basic math too. Where did I say that it would have changed the outcome of the game? I was asking a simple question about rules interpretation, which you didn't answer. You appear to derive pleasure in reinforcing how bad things are, but in this case your reply wasn't even relevant.

It appeared to me that this crew let an awful lot go-interference, hitting from behind, some tripping and a lot of grabbing and clutching. The other fairly obvious thing is how often we just fell down. Have been noticing this the last few games. Either our skating has faltered or someone is not getting good edges when sharpening. Does not make yesterday's game any different-we were outshot, outhit, out faceoffed, outplayed on the power play, and of course outscored. QU is a very good team but I just felt we played the game with less than an enthusiastic welcome back to the injured and sick players. It seemed to me that about 10 games ago we lost the ability or desire to hit anyone with authority. Too many players get a free pass into our zone without at least getting banged and we cannot enter the opposing zone without getting held up easily.

And the fact that at a typical game in Troy, that the "Clarkson still" cheer is the most creative thing done by thehome team on or off the ice is a telling commentary on the state of Tute hockey.

No. Not the commentary of RPI Hockey. Just commentary on RPI hockey fans and students. There's a difference.

I find that it's alot easier to hit the ignore button and not read his posts.

Anyone coming down here for sure today? Cold, in fact, very cold for here. But crystal clear and the roads are fine except for the construction that is always going on around Princeton on Route 1 and the usual moronic NJ drivers who are the rudest and most selfish in the nation.

One of these years I will have to go up there. :)

You really would be most welcome. If you can try to come when we play them here early in the season(October/November) as the weather is better and the days have longer daylight hours. Winter weather can get a bit tricky here-not because of big storms, but because no one knows how to drive in it. They panic with an inch on the ground.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Surely there is room for honest constructive criticism. The fact remains that despite having a highly talented gang of student-athletes season after season, our record does not reflect the sum of our parts. What is especially heartbreaking is those games where our guys don't seem to be motivated. Look, I don't have the answers and I'm certainly not calling for anyone to be "fiar'd", but something, somehow, somewhere needs to change. But hey, enough of my yapping.

How about we all try to come up with one NON-SARCASTIC substantive change that would improve RPI hockey and, perhaps, return them to where they might be considered a "program". I suggest that RPI loosen its academic restrictions "just a bit".My information (which may be wrong, but comes from a close friend of Buddy Powers and Fridgy) is that RPI has always had academic standards above and beyond those set by the ECAC. Perhaps loosening these, if true, would allow recruitment of hockey players that are something other than a brainiac or a business major. Anybody? Bueller?

I can't get behind that. Academics #1, athletics #2 in my book. And certainly the players we are recruiting are more than talented enough. I really don't think our problem lies there. I am glad you voiced an opinion though.

Great to see RPI get back in the win column. I had co-workers (RPI alumni from the 80's) down there tonight. Hopefully the RPI faithful made a good showing.

Going by the loudness of Red in the anthem they did. I imagine that DrD will post a report later.
